Sorry if this has been posted before, but I was wondering what the best-sounding CD version of "The Wall" is? The original Columbia disc or the Capitol reissue?

The Capitol reissue... remastered by Doug Sax... or the Mofi!

    The Mofi by far!

The MoFi is the best CD version...if you can find one that is (and for a price that won't force you to sell your house to buy it).

The EMI/Capitol reissue would be the next best choice.

This title is hard to find at a resonable price on either version. Try to find a used of the Doug sax version. they don't stay in the used bins for long. i can never find one!................ but I'll be patient!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Doug Sax one definately. The Mofi, IMHO, a close second.

I think they're both pretty close. You won't go wrong with one or the other. At this time I'm enjoying the MFSL but I also love the Doug Sax reissue. If you can find an incredible deal on the MFSL, then go for it but I also highly recommend the reissue...

I don't have the Mofi, and so can't compare, but I do have a Japanese EMI/Harvest issue that sounds incredible. It's mastered at a nice low volume, so that the sound effects don't go into distortion.

Yikes, I paid $103 for this Mofi set. I know these prices are insane, but I really wanted it. Looks good in the collection too. Got it next my Tull - Living In The Past, which I paid a tidy sum for also.

    Elegy,

$103 ain't so bad. The disk set retailed for $50.00 new, so getting something that has been OOP for so long at twice the price is a great deal. At least I think you did very well.

Now if I can only get my hands on "A Very Special Christmas" for twice the price, that would be a coup.

Definitely try to find the Mo-Fi version!! May not be cheap though:(

Maybe, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. ;)

I'd have to say go with the Mo-Fi. Also a forum member earlier mentioned Tull's Living in the Past. What a great one that is!

The MoFi. I won't listen to any other CD pressing.

(BTW, one key reason it's so hard to find is that MFSL only had a one-year licensing term with it instead of their usual 3 or 5.)

I have the 1997 Pink Floyd 30th Ann. issue. It sounds amazing. I don't have it here, so I don't know who did the remastering. It says it was remastered under the band's supervision. Unfortunately, it is out of print.

I have this version and to my ears it sounds no different to the EMI UK version in the Shine On box set. I'd need to check who remastered it, I think it was Doug Sax, who also remastered DSOTM in 1992 for the Shine On box and the 1993 20th anniversary edition.

The Wall was also remastered in 1992. I think the '97 Sony/Columbia US version was from the same the remaster, the 2000 Capitol UK reissue was a switch of labels rather than a new remaster.

I agree Sckott. The Doug Sax version is easily more "balanced" than the Mofi. In the case of the Mofi, this is an example of something being too perfect. The Harvest/Columbia release is much easier to live with on a daily basis.

Look at it this way, the Mofi is like a really foxy woman who wants to play, you can stand her for a few nights or weeks, but you wouldn't want anything long term because she doesn't have what it takes.

The Doug Sax version is like your high school sweetheart, always there when you need her, and willing and able to give you what your soul really needs.

Too bad you can't enjoy both versions simultaneously.

What about the old Columbia 80's CD of 'The Wall'? I still have that in my collection. I should give that a lesson. What was that sourced from??

Wow. Now that is an award winning analogy. But very true. I agree.

The 80's "Wall" on CBS/Columbia was supposedly from a Japanese safety. The 1st issues were made in Japan. Has the sorta-noticeable "pop" on "Comfortably Numb" right on the 1st note.
