Having got great headphones, Sennheiser HD560s & 600s, for listening to Linda Ronstadt, I now need as good a pair of speakers.

I want to be able to hear Linda singing, front & centre, not backstage or out-volumed by her bands & backing vocalists. My headphones let me hear Linda in detail, my current speakers less so.

I have standard & audiophile (AF, MFSL) vinyl & CDs, as well as various Japanese SHM CDs, a SACD & mini-LP CDs.

Any suggestions on good speakers for mid-range, especially vocal, on par with my headphones? Would a centre speaker help, so 2.1 stereo?

First, 2.1 stereo doesn’t have a center speaker, the .1 refers to a subwoofer. Second, what’s your budget? Third, what would you be using for amplification?

Is this the 2nd time on this board someone is looking for speakers only to hear Linda :faint:?!
Maybe I should start a thread looking for the best speakers to hear Trixie, or Norah, or Diana, or Peggy, or Anoushka...

Pretty specific listening requirement. Any particular songs or albums?

Find some used Royd Audio speakers, there's nothing like them. You'll think she's in the room with you.

Problem is poor mastering, especially Linda's earlier albums, where bass is up too much . Even the Audio Fidelity Greatest Hits 1, remastered by Steve Hoffman could not do much until "Heart Like A Wheel" tracks (his remaster of HLAW was much better).

These two Steve Hoffman remasters would likely sound good on any speakers. Best not to over think it. :)

Budget depends on quality obviously, good at low volume is important.

Vol 2 is what I'm missing. Be interesting to compare the CD & LP sound quality of each.

Omega single driver speakers excel at low to moderately loud volumes. If you’re coming from headphones you will love their intimacy and 3D holographic imaging. Can be easily driven on 2 watts.

Handmade in the USA with a 10 year warranty and your choice of veneers for fairly reasonable prices.

Make sure you can find Cry Like A Rainstorm on vinyl, it's mind-blowing.

LS3/5a are supposedly excellent for vocal range. I had a pair in the 80's, good, but imo not great.

Assuming you have the cash available, why compromise? A pair of these

Then you're done. I heard the Trio album played on this setup and it was just magical.

If however the Kondo is too rich for your blood, consider an AirTight or Jadis.
