    Three votes.

Only 25 options as that's all the poll allows.

Favourite years? Favourite albums, singles, concerts from those years?

    I voted 1979.
Music bliss here in the UK with..

    The jam
    The specials
    Madness
    Squeeze
    Tubeway army

The whole mod/ska revival was in full swing and also new wave was probably at it's peak.

A very exciting year for me personally musically.

Also, does everyone agree that this 25-year period was the best era for music?

If you could only ever listen to music from that time, would you ever run out? I don't think so.

    Does anyone prefer 1982–2007?

Funny, I love 1979 as well, but for different acts:

    The Knack
    The Cars
    Donna Summer
    Led Zeppelin
    ELO
    Styx
    Supertramp

I agree with you in general, but I believe that the period from 1936-1948 gives your proposal a run for its money. Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Early Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller all laid a foundation for what would become the rock era. But as I said, I agree that the 25 year period you gave is the best period.

By the way, my three years: 1966, 1969 and 1974. 66 and 74 had a great amount of variety and 1969 saw some of the best rock albums (Abbey Road, Let it Bleed)

No, everybody doesn't agree with that. No one with a love for jazz or classical or country or gospel or opera or hip hop orBroadway music or anything other than maybe rock or soul, necessarily thinks of those 25 years as the greatest years in the 3,500 recorded history of human music making. It does, however, basically describe the temporal boundaries of the rock era, when rock music was the biggest thing in American and western pop. So, if your interest is exclusively rock music, and you don't know or care about any other kind of music, I could see why you might think that.

Some of the music from 1982-2007, yes. But overall, no.

Not a single one of those artists is a favorite of mine, yet that year is still in my top three. When a year includes the best album of the whole next decade, you know it's something special.

Can I vote "All The Above"?
When you compare music as 'art itself' (as if it was up against -theatre, art, movies, etc.), music WINS during THESE years!

This year is the best year for music (whenever you are reading this) because this is the year that you are listening to the music that you are currently listening to. :righton:

69,68,67 in that order ... And '69 because every major band was at the top of their game and released an outstanding album- from Beatles, Stones, Who thru to newcomers like Zeppelin, CSN, Neil Young, Joni, King Crimson ....

I know and care about plenty of music from before (and after) this period, including jazz, blues and classical. I just happen to think that this period is the peak.

Yes. That was a much better period for music. Popular music from 1957-81 was still restrained by tradition and pastiche. If I could choose a 25 year span it'd be 1974-98. Music was deconstructed and put back together in a million ways, creativity was unrestrained.

If one defines "music" in a myopic sense, then my answer is "quite possibly;" however, I'd hone it down to 1965-1974. For Jazz, I'd choose 1955-1964 as the pinnacle. For Classical, I'd opt for the first 25 years of the 20th Century. But most folks around here only look at rock and it's many tendrils.

Peter Pyle is a former member who liked only older music -- classic rock, I guess.

Ignoring those years ignores every trace of hip-hop, college rock, indie/alternative, and the various strands of metal that came out of the NWOBHM. So yeah, some days I DO prefer that era. As another poster said, my ideal would probably be 1974-98.

But to paraphrase Chris Rock, 1957-81 was when 90% of this forum first got laid, so I can see how they would think that.

Haha! Never heard of him but "guy who only likes older music" describes 95% of this board.
