Duets are dodgy. They can be absolutely perfect blends of two compatible outstanding singers or inappropriate and ugly head-on collisions between howling imbeciles.

So when it comes to your favourite duets - who do its?

    Here's my #1...

    Perfect.

    Another good 'un...

Todd Rundgren slays on this track. Since hearing this song I've always wished Todd had let someone else produce him as his vocals here are about as good a performance, recording and production as I've ever heard from the man. It's absolute schmaltz but by God it works.

That works. I think it has a lot to do with compatible and complimentary voices, styles and personalities and these two fit together perfectly.

I hate to be the first to bring in the goddamn Beatles but:
John and Paul in "If I Fell". If that's not a duet then I'm a brother to a father of a monkey.
I can't seem to locate the superior mono version but the stereo will have to do.

Honestly every Gaye and Terrell duet is magic. The greatness of any one recording is only determined by how good the song they were given was. Not every song was a great one, but several sure were. If I had to pick one it would be "Ain't nothing like the real thing."

This is SHF, so I don't expect much appreciation for country, but Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn belted out a long string of classics, probably none better than this:
