I'm not sure it qualifies as a duet, but....

'To All The Girls I've Loved Before' by Willie Nelson & Julio Iglesias. To this day, Julio often performs this song for the encore.

I know it was originally Moe Bandy/Janie Fricke, but this John Prine/Dolores Keane take is so bare bones and broken the original pales in comparison. In fact, every song on Prine's In Spite Of Ourselves (w/ Patty Loveless, Iris Dement, Connie Smith, Lucinda Williams and others) is worthy of being in this thread. Classic duets album, right up there with George and Tammy's Golden Ring.

Iris Dement baby! The realest of real deals. Not that any of the others on In Spite Of Ourselves are slouches... it's a hell of a record.

That album is an embarrassment of riches, but the Dement vocals are a real standout.

I just love this song and if the video of it doesn't melt your heart, then you are a very cold, cynical person!

I've always loved Genya aka Goldie. I've also always wondered what the meaning of junkman is? For some reason I don't think it's the obvious drug dealer. Why would one listen to him?

Lera Lynn did an album of duets with some notable talents. Here's my favorite from that one:

  24. I like Bowie's "Sound and Vision" - basically a duet with himself.
"Fairy Tale of New York" is a good one too.
