I don’t want to keep piling on, but given how much Underground Garage plays The Monkees (And I hear them a lot there), it would be ironic if they play more actual Monkees records in a day than this new Monkees station does. Dwight Yoakam’s Bakersfield Beat channel plays The Monkees, and some solo Nez, pretty often too. Dwight’s an unabashed fan: And, of course the “60s on 6” channel plays the usual Monkees hits, and occasional album track too.
Don't have many answers for you but somehow I was able to get it to play but I had to load wave browser. I still just use chrome anyhow and it works. I did just hear the owner explain their playlist in general terms. He said every tune has a connection to the Monkees. Besides the group, the guys solo it includes Influences, writers, producers, show connections, etc. He said if you are not aware of the connection just ask him on Facebook and he will explain. He did say it may be a 'six degrees of separation" scenario for some tracks and it would appear Java Jive may be one of those.
Christian Nesmith announced yesterday that he and his wife and music partner Circe Link are waiving their music rights free for a year for Monkee Mania Radio to use. This is a good sign of the faith they have in the station.
Hearing RCA era Michael Nesmith songs on MMR, so it looks like he gave them the waiver to play his material.
If I can just add parenthetically to the debate about the radio station: this cover COOKS. I love how they took the tremolo guitar part - which is just a brushstroke on the Monkees version - and turn it into a wall of rhythm. Fun fact: the Candy Store Prophets' own Gerry McGee - who obviously played on the original version of the song - played on Dwight's first album Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc. Etc.
I believe MMR could always play rca-era Nesmith— but on a limited basis. I think the waiver would be to to free the limitations. I think Sony would have to give the older stuff waiver, not Nez.
On Monkee Mania Radio just a short while ago (7/28) - I heard Mike's My Share of the Sidewalk and then Micky's DSN: Little Red Rider. I think Marty from the New Monkees was the DJ? I know this is an obscure request. I believe I have this right. On the Monkees on Tour episode, I believe when the Monkees took over the studio in Phoenix from the DJ, they played The Seeds "Pushing Too Hard" or something close to that as it was in Jan 1967 when that epi was filmed. It was a 45 on the Crescendo label. Does anyone know for sure which Seeds song it was? And if so, can it be played on MMR?
Are you sure it was the Seeds? While I don't think GNP had many other 'rock/pop' acts on their label, it could have been Billy Strange or any other artist. I'll bet someone with the blu-ray can get a good look at that footage. Also... Marty is one of the deejays? That's awesome.
Thanks - my favorite Seeds' single. Edit I know it is a weak link but would be cool if the Seeds get some airplay on MMR.
I believe they have increased the amount of Monkees originals and especially Nesmith originals in the past day or so. I have enjoyed the live Nez stuff and some of the other music I might not hear anywhere else but agree with several who think Monkees as a group is top priority followed by the best of the solo work from those guys. Now they are talking about the 55 Anniversary date "when they go live". What, if anything, will be different from that day forward that is not happening now. I know from Ocean's movie series they have "soft openings" in casinos and then real openings, is this just like that?
From Alan’s FB post— It sounds like they got a waiver from 7a records — which means they can play quite a bit of Nesmith from the 7a releases. What a relief it must have been to get that waiver. 7a is a class act. My guess is that when they go live… It will be run like a traditional radio station. In other words you will have live disc jockeys throughout the day with set time slots. That is going to be a tremendous undertaking. It will be interesting!

Great record. Add the Beatles “Good Morning, Good Morning” and there’s 5 minutes of the broadcast day nailed down.
Reminds again how this project would have benefited from a director with a vision, discipline and some level of care. Lots of interesting nuggets in amongst the dregs. Imagine the boys sitting in with those three legends a’la Johnny Cash Show or (dare I say it, the Elvis ‘in the round’) rather than that strange concoction.
I'm not on Facebook or anything like that, but I'm wondering if Andrew Sandoval has said anything new about the book? I'm guessing everything's still on schedule and that books will ship out later this month?
Right, he mentioned that the books should be ready to ship by mid August and then he’ll be focusing on the rehearsals for the Monkees farewell tour.
