Very interesting episode. I had thought earlier in the season they were starting to jump the shark a little bit but this was nicely done. That being said Chuck has kind of become a little too “one note revenge“ but the actor does a great job with it without giving anything away, do we all think a little bit less of Mike Prince now? And the new character Dave - very interesting indeed
Spoiler She wrote up a fraudulent warrant so that Rhoades could walk. I've said all along that this is class warfare; old money vs new. I bet that Mahar comes from old money.
Even though this show has fallen into straight formula, it is indeed still entertaining as hell. For me, the strength of this season was really predicated on knowing the previous seasons and how Prince compared to Axelrod -- it was economically summed up by the Wags character in this episode. "A little bit less of Mike Prince"? Did any of us really hold this guy in high regard? The whole plotline regarding Mike Prince and his "dalliances" with Rian -- that was the worst part of the episode. It just came across as illogical... Unless Rian starts working as an "agent" for Chuck/Dave, all the other noise around it is basically nonsense... especially after Trump and his BS, it's been proven none of this really makes a difference to the voters and is all justifiable if you actually like the maniac. Hopefully, the writers can/will do more with Maggie Siff next season... her character has become a bit insufferable and a joke.
I find Rian to be uniquely attractive. Agree it was a great season finale. It made suffering through some mediocre episodes worth it. Does anyone else foresee a series finale where Prince flees and gives it all back to Axe?
My wife and I watch it, but it's such a stupid show. Not a believable character in sight. Must make me stupid. How many times can characters say a variation of "I will destroy you and everything you love"? At least twice an episode. It's like watching Dynasty. The constant pop culture , music, and sports references are cringe-inducing , slap-myself-on-the-back writer B.S. As silly as I think it is, I find it entertaining.
Just checking in here -- Is Anyone still watching this show? The cartoonishness is ramped up to the extreme, but I'm still in because it's the last season, so the parts that are usually so tedious are actually a bit funny.
I know how I want the series to end... Spoiler I want to see Prince win the White House. I want to see Rhoades disgraced and imprisoned. And I want to see Connerty released and pardoned.
i fast forward through each episode just because i've watched since the beginning. the show is bad, very very bad.
I stopped watching once Damian bailed, was an avid viewer of Peaky Blinders. I have not gone back. For me, there is a certain window of interest. For example, I saw the Star Wars in the original theatrical release, dug the Empire Strikes (I remember it more from home video) but by the time they released the third in the original trilogy, I had already lost interest. Maybe I'm just an airhead.
You know what would be more interesting? For all of them to fail. If anybody wins -- if Rhodes goes to prison, if Bobby Axelrod keeps all his money, if Taylor becomes a billionaire (and so on), if Wags keeps on taking drugs and surviving -- it won't be nearly as fun. I'd predict Bobby Axelrod loses everything, is sitting on the steps outside the building he used to own, and he's mulling... "I know how I can get it all back. It's a series of steps... I have it all figured out." And he sits muttering to himself and the camera pulls out and keeps going and keeps going until Manhattan is just a dot... and then we roll the credits.
the show should end with damian lewis and maggie siff rolling around naked in a bed covered with $100 bills.
Ha! I'll add this: Billions now refers to how many pop culture references they can awkwardly fit into a show.
IMO Rhodes is the villain of Billions. Initially at its core, the show was about class warfare: Old money vs new money. Rhodes' father has made the same kind of shady deals that he wants to lock up Prince and Axelrod for. We rarely see Chuck go after Old Money unless they got in the way of his ambitions.
You know... I like Paul Giamatti so much as an actor, I find myself always rooting for him, because he fails so often and yet keeps struggling to get back up. I'm not gonna see Mike Prince or Bobby Axelrod as the heroes, because they're a-hole billionaires! And almost everybody else is a peon. No question, Chuck Rhodes is an opportunist, but I think the idea of taking down entitled rich people is a good (and popular) idea, and if he can do that and also achieve his political goals... why not? Oh, I dunno -- I burst out laughing when they guy said, "this bird, you cannot change!" The hallmark of the show is the twist, where you think somebody has failed, or they've gotten arrested, or they've fallen on their face... and then you find out, "no, actually that was planned from the start and it's all going to switch around 180° and the other guy is going to win." I think that's very clever, though it's certainly gotten very convoluted over the years.
was that the greatest takedown of an egoist??? I think Wendy wrote all the complaints based on what was told during employee sessions. i worked briefly for an egoist like Prince, the scheduled 3 weeks was more than enough on the other hand those buttkissing comments were pure gold, have to write them down for later use Showtime uploads each episode 2 days on CRAVE before it plays on my cable TV station, the only time in my life I've had this happen.
I guess Wendy thought she had a great little mind game going until she was confronted with the fact that Mike Prince was probably created by his wife. She "put him back together."
that was a boss moment... (shudder) only 5 more episodes to go, can't wait to see what AI comes up with for long-forgotten cultural references
