I disagree, as well. This is one of my favourite current shows with some really interesting characters.
I like Taylor, but the other character with the glasses investigating the DA, is straight out of season 4, episode 10 of Scooby Doo. Also the story line this time is just dull. You should all watch Fauda. Now that is excellent.
Anytime Lewis and Giamatti have a head to head scene, it's pure gold. Two great actors, just slugging it out. It's just a shame there aren't more of them.
Giamatti's like John C. Reilly, he must curse the fact that he isn't as good looking as Depp and Pitt, as he's a ****ing brilliant actor...John Turturro's the same!
A bit of a disconnect with the previous episodes in regard to the maneuvers and plays of the "slick" characters... Chuck Sr. exerts influence to squash a casino deal in a particular region to hurt Axe and crew... Decimates the community... Suggests to son to pursue NY politics after son's crucial prosecution... Even me, the complete unconnected, anonymous schlub, knows that maneuver will come back to bite Chuck Jr. on the ass... perfect to torpedo his political aspirations. You just can't set up Chuck Sr. as one of these powerful, wealthy, connected, intelligent players, and then have him not see a mere two steps down the road.
Hasn't he been shown as meddling in an almost bumbling way before? He's older and past his prime. Seems like he's done things that he thinks will help Chuck in the past, but they've blown up a bit and caused problems. So this could be another one, and a biggie. Wasn't the person he called about switching the location for the gaming license played by David Straithairn? I thought it was him, but I don't see this show listed in his credits at IMDB, so I'm unsure.
This show is so much fun, and rewarding, to watch for so many reasons. But at it's core, the white hot dynamic between Lewis & Giamatti is the fuel that drives it. Tellyawhat, when Giamatti learned about what happened to his books, he didn't say much, but the unbridled fury he conveyed put a smile on my face. The war between these 2 has just been kicked up quite a few notches. Outstanding television!
I'm really enjoying this show every week. So Rhodes is gonna let Axe get by on Sandicott, but Rhodes immediately steps in to something new with the Klaxon short on inside info that will give Rhodes another opportunity.
Loving this show, and think season 2 is on par with season 1. I'm hoping there are more seasons planned, there's so many ways it could go.
I'm pretty sure he does, actually. He figured that out an episode or two ago. In this latest one where he had the conversation with Foley, he was warned that the whole issue was a circle that inevitably leads back to him. And if he pushes forward making a big deal of Axe forcing austerity on the town of Sandicott due to the debt he holds, it will come out how the change of location for the casino occured. Someone will connect the dots from Foley to Rhodes Sr., and then obviously to Chuck. The developer who Chuck tried to bluff into giving up how Axe got the inside information in the first place didn't bite as he knew Chuck can't really force the issue. That's why Chuck is electing to drop the Sandicott issue and look for a future opportunity to get Axe. Which I'm pretty sure Axe is about to present by shorting Klaxon on inside info. At least that is how I understand it.
I think Taylor is going to be very involved in whatever cliffhanger they come up with. They were being observed by the FBI when boarding that private plane. And now they're adding Mary Louise Parker to the mix. Great show.
Taylor isn't compromised yet. There's nothing wrong with the private plan, of course, but Axe is really investing in Taylor and will inevitably use him for something shady in the future. I see Taylor as eventually being the Bud Fox to Axe's Gordon Gecko, and probably feeling used by Axe and choosing to cooperate with the Feds providing a fatal blow to Axe in exchange for saving his own skin somewhat and walking away from the financial game altogether.
The thing with Taylor is that there are obviously a lot of walls they use as self protection. Being the person they are, those walls represent safety. But being in that work environment and being accepted by the crew and praised by Axe, those walls are weakening. If at some point Taylor feels betrayed or vulnerable, they will get revenge . Taylor is a lot of things, weak is not one of them. By the way, am I the only one who sees Taylor being somewhat attracted to Mafee?
Another great episode. Seeing Axe running thru a gamut of emotions was terrific stuff, as always, Damien Lewis never dissapoints. The return of the forgotten S&M angle was entertaining! Amid Axe's day-long turmoil, the loyalty Wags always has for Axe provided one of the funniest quips of the show; "wanna get a drink? No. How about some industrial grade....No. How about a hand job? I'll pass." Funny, and yet don'tcha know if Axe said yes....now THAT'S loyalty!
Yeah, the scene with Chuck and the dominatrix at the deli was funny. Axe should have just erased the last message or two instead of all of them. Lara will know he got in her phone if there are NO messages from him.
I suspect Lara knows this. Sunday's episode "Golden Frog Time" was brilliant TV. A little confusing at the beginning, but it all comes together nicely. The hope the season finale is as good as the last few episodes have been.
