An incredible plot twist! Watched the 'inside the episode' interview with Giamatti, it was as interesting, and illuminating, as the episode itself!

Yeah great twist. Can't question Rhodes commitment. He blew his $8 million trust and let his friend get wiped out just to trap Axe. Really looking forward to next week.

Dad didn't seem too upset by it all. In hindsight, it's almost though as he was in on it, or at least knew what was going on.
Maybe they're confident that the stock value will bounce back once revealed of the sabotage by Axe.
Compelling to say the least. (Oh, and wait 'til Wendy finds out).

Sunday's night's episode (4/30) with its "Ocean's 11"-styled storytelling and overall choppier pacing was probably the most clever written and executed episode of the series. IMHO, of course.

And this time looks like he will bring in that Dake guy so as not to screw it up. But the question is does Axe know something? He saw Boyd take a drink, that's suspicious. And the way he casually let the Dr. keep the evidence makes me think he may have a trick up his sleeve, or maybe he is going to take the money he made and just disappear?

All she knew, if I remember correctly, was that Axe had just gone heavily short. She wasn't in on the details. As long as she can show that, I'm not sure that's illegal inside info.

    The key phrase.

EDIT: Also, insider trading charges are the least of Axe Cap's worries.

Taylor wasn't handed that 250k for no reason. My guess is they use it as get out money when they see what's happening, or when they turn against Axe. Finding out what Chuck did to trap Axe was a jaw dropper. This was a brilliant episode on all levels, can't wait to see what they cook up for the season ender.

Maybe Chuck Sr. knew, but I hope not. It would really be against character for him to intentionally blow that money to get Axe. Granted it wasn't his money he was blowing, but he presumably does plan to pay the trust back when he gets his windfall from the casino land. He's got 4-5 houses at least, so he'll be okay, and I think that is why he was more sanguine about it than Spyros who had already quit his job. It is perfectly believable for Chuck Jr. to have intentionally blown his trust in pursuing Axe as he's never been about money. It seems less likely his father would have gone along with such a plan and buy in additional shares the way he did. He did seem pretty unnerved by it at first, but had recovered his composure by the time they were all together.

I'm also curious what the real motives are for Bill Stearn giving the suitcase full of cash to Taylor are. It doesn't seem likely that he's actually looking for for Taylor and making sure he has cash for an inevitable getaway. Seems more likely that was done outside the office to be photographed.

Wendy might not have broken the law but making a tidy profit as a result of her husband's machinations might complicate his case. Anyway season 2 has been riveting.

I'm reading the replies quickly to try to not think too much about them. But, I'm excited to see all the responses. Evidently this season has really picked up and I'm hopeful to switch from DirecTV to Dish soon and get access to the rest of Season 2 I have yet to see. It is my top priority. Love the show.

Actually it wasn't Spyros who quit his job. It's another character named Ira (forget the last name) played by Ben Shenkman who was Chuck's lawyer. Who I have to admit kind of looks like Ari Spyros played by Stephen Kunken. I made that mistake at first as well.

So Axe is clearly the evil one in the show now having resorted to poison. I couldn't believe it!
That was brilliant they way they turned Chuck's loss around to something he orchestrated. I knew the crying at the end was laughing, but didn't figure out why. That was a well hidden twist.
So now something has to go wrong for Chuck to even the score. I don't think it will be Wendy being brought up on charges (or at least not just that). I think Ira will kill himself and the feeling of guilt will destroy Chuck, or his not caring will destroy our image of him.

I knew it was the guy who was Chuck's former lawyet, but got the name wrong. When I looked the characters up at IMDB, the small picture of Ari Spyros looked like the guy, and Ari sounded close enough to Ira. Thanks for the correction.

I don't see how Wendy can be brought up on charges. Trading on insider information is difficult enough to prove, but she didn't really appear to get direct inside information. She sussed out herself that something must be afoot due to the positions Axe was taking, but I don't think she had any knowledge of the scheme or what was going to happen. And I don't think knowledge of someone else's (or another firms) trading position would be considered "inside information". She could reasonably be fired from Axe for what she did, but I don't think she's exposed in any legal way in this instance.

That's a pretty good prediction on Ira.

I just think she might be arrested en masse in conjunction with the poisonings and or suspicion of inside information just because she was in on the short in a big way. Not that it would go anywhere, but at least just for show.

The actual facts don't really matter. All that matters are the facts that a prosecutor can prove that also support the prosecutor's theory of the case. If the feds can show that she made a big bet on a short that she knew would screw her estranged husband, that tends to suggest that she was in on the scheme. Why do you think Axe and Wags got so upset when they learned that Wendy was in on the short? It just makes sense to me that Wendy gets screwed here because it's the perfect tragic turn of events - Chuck plots the perfect scheme to take down Axe only to inadvertently take down his wife at the same time. We shall see, I suppose.

Because they were concerned she might have tipped Rhodes, or at best that her gain on the short undermines the financial hit they want to deliver to Chuck. I still don't see any legal exposure for Wendy at all here. And the show has been pretty good about being realistic with the securities trading stuff and related laws.

I gotta say, when Axe laid out exactly what Giamatti had done; screwed his best friend, and his father, AND lost $25M, just to 'get' Axe, I also was left wondering why. I understand the good guy wants to get the bad guy but Giamatti's obsession goes way beyond that. Also worth noting was how in these last 2 episodes, everyone in Axe's inner circle had a moment where they expressed and demonstrated their true love and devotion to him. Everyone except the wife, what a conniving b***h!
