I don’t know if it’s because I watched that on my iPhone (doubt it, as everything else has always sounded fine) but that sounds a bit of a mess to my ears. There’s something metallic about the way CR’s voice sounds and the whole mix just felt ‘off’.
The sound was off at times. Strange, to be sure. I did enjoy the performance though. Does anyone have any further info on the LP release that was mentioned?
Interesting to see this group of players. Good to know Chris still has the desire to sing some of these songs from the CRB and hasn't totally abandoned this material but of course, it will never be the same without Neal. Not the greatest mix but this band sounds good and can certainly play. Chris looks very tired and it's hard not to think about his transformation into the "Shake Your Money Maker Reunion Chris" and his comments about the whole CRB trip just being about having to "go off into the wilderness for a few years and get that out of my system". C'mon, man...I know it's all just publicity to drum up business for the Crowes reunion tour and to let people know straight-ahead rock 'n roll Jealous Again Chris has returned and they don't have to worry about getting this far-out cosmic hippie deadhead guy that went on a freak trip for a bunch of years fronting the new Crowes but seriously, the CRB experience deserves far more respect than that. What's even more amazing to me is the caption under this video says it is the "Single from "SOMETIMES HIGH IS NOT THE TOP" concert film". Concert film? Ok, great but what I'd like to know is how is it that this is slated to be released but "GREETINGS FROM UNICORN, CALIFORNIA", the official chronicle of 7 years on the road with the CRB is still fighting to find it's way out. I know it's been "coming soon" for the last few years and even had a showing at the Malibu Film Festival in February, 2020 but still no news on a release date for the fans that would love to purchase it. I really hope it doesn't end up in the "lost" pile of unreleased concert/documentary films that Chris has along side things I'd love to see like "BLOOD, BREAD & SONG: A PARIS JOURNAL" and "LIVE AT THE EL REY", not to mention what else is lingering in the vaults. Some may see this post as a drag and rehashing the same old crap but cut me some slack, I've been a fan and supported these guys from the beginning right up until last year but I'm still trying to heal from the latest Chris & Rich trip and all that went down with that. haha That being said, against my better judgement and the fact that I have said they won't see another dime from me, I have ordered the Shake Your Money Maker Super Deluxe vinyl box in hopes that the sales will help pave the way for similar box sets of the next three albums, which is really where it's at for me. I grew up right along side The Black Crowes and all the albums as they were released through the years and they are part of the soundtrack of my life but it's hard at this point to try and separate the brothers as people from the brothers as musicians and songwriters and move on with my good memories intact. Here's hoping that changes.
I was casually browsing my local record store website and saw Southern Harmony, Amorica, and Three Snakes have been reissued as double LPs. Has anyone heard them yet? I wonder if there’s any improvement since they’re fairly long albums. Here it says these reissues have been cut from original master tapes: Amorica
There's a thread on the Crowes vinyl reissues somewhere, but I don't think these are new, just newly pressed stock of LP's from 2014-15-ish. IIRC they didn't get great reviews, unfortunately.
Oh yes, it seems so. I got confused since for some reason I was convinced the latest reissues were single LPs. Thanks for clarifying.
Any get the new shake your money maker release? Saw it was remastered from the original production tapes on the hype sticker. Curious to know if it’s worth picking up or not.
There is a whole thread about it where you can see a wide variety of takes. Black Crowes to issue 2 cd Deluxe Edition of Shake Your Money Maker
Has anyone heard anything about the LP that was supposed to be released for Los Hermanos Cosmico that was mentioned during the live stream?
If you get the box with the live show? Sure? Otherwise, hunt down an original. "Original Production tapes" in this instance means "the 1998 DATs that were remastered by Leon Zervos"
It’s Sventastic. Welcome back, dude! I’m not ready to change how I feel about this tour, but this warms my heart.
They already fired the bass player who was in the previous line-up?! ;-) It is nice to see Sven back. I'm surprised they took any of the former members back. Especially considering the way Rich ended the Magpie Salute. Maybe Sven is just a glutton for punishment. If I go to this show - and it's still a big if for me - at this point it would be my first post-pandemic concert.
Sven was interviewed on the State Of Amorica podcast a couple of months ago and you could tell he was devastated not to be in the band, so I am glad he got the call.
Good news on the tour being back on, and even better than Sven has re-joined. That's a step in the right direction! [going to request a GORT update thread title]
I think it went from 46 dates in 2020 to 37 dates in 2021. Now US only with Toronto dropped, which has happened with other tours recently shying away from Canada knowing it will take longer to reopen. 16 months away from concerts will work in the Crowes favor.
