Would seem BMG are releasing them here in the UK, and the US release date may be too close to the release date for the Do reissues in February for BMGs liking.
Man I am so confused. And no time to fully research these and compare the tracklists with what I already have, which not counting numerous other CD releases/reissues of these albums also include the Deluxe Editions from 2010. After already having shelled out for these like 5 times over I am very resistant to doing it yet again (and again and again)....
I already have the previous deluxe reissues which were well mastered, and the new content on these does not excite me much. Why bother remixing only The Mob Rules? I would love someone trying to remix the full Heaven and Hell album. Depending on the price and the pressing quality, I might go for H&H on vinyl though.
Why anyone would bother remixing Heaven and Hell eludes me. Come to think of it, remixing “The Mob Rules” has about zero appeal. The Portland gig is what will probably hook me into buying Mob Rules. And as long as I end up getting that I will probably get both. Neither of these records needs to be within a hundred miles of a remix, IMO. Both were stellar, very unique productions and Birch at his peak.
I'm not sure why they didn't just do a comprehensive Dio era box set including both these albums and all bonus and live material from that era.
I like the Hammersmith show much better then the Live Evil release. Just has a but more authentic live sound and I prefer the set. Soundwise, its similar to compare the solo Ozzy Tribute album to the more recent Ozzy RSD release from the Blizzard tour.
The NY shows in 1980 with Blue Oyster Cult co-headlining were professionally filmed and released on VHS, BETA and Laserdisc (only in Japan) called “Black and Blue featuring 7 songs from each band. It’s not a great Dio/Sabbath performance, they are all out of sorts at the beginning of Neon Knights.
I was very happy when I found out that Country Girl was on the Hammersmith CD. Made it an instant purchase for me, and I wasn't disappointed.
Regarding the mastering. On Tony Iommi’s Facebook page several people express their wishes for the new mastering. I think that this is a good example of what 99% of the music listening public value in a remaster: “Hope both have a remaster that makes them sound, not only better, but louder as when playing on a mix the songs are noticeably quieter than other Sabbath tunes. ” The loudness war is over; we lost ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The press release lists the mono single edit of "Lady Evil" as previously unreleased on CD, but wasn't that on the last deluxe reissue of the album? This is what I really wanna know. Been waiting on a reissue of Headless Cross ever since it was first proposed. Genuinely one of my all-time favourite albums.
I have the original CD issue along with the vinyl, the Hammersmith show is excellent, far better sonics than the clip from Portland.
Is it the general consensus that the Hammersmith show is better than Live Evil? I may have to get the 1st Mob Rules deluxe edition before this one comes out then since I have never been that impressed with Live Evil and I didn't get the 1st Mob Rules Deluxe because I think the original Warner CD sounds great.
I've been searching in the wild for years for another copy of Mob Rules on vinyl... prices always seemed a bit high on Discogs & Ebay. My OP has a deep gouge in 'Falling Off The Edge Of The World". That being said, I might go in on the vinyl releases... think my copy of Heaven & Hell is pretty worn as well.
It's different. As noted above, it's very raw and immediate. At least one night of that run was New Year's Eve, so it's got a definite party vibe. When I listen to it, I can imagine that I'm leaning on the front railing right in front of the stage. When I listen to Live Evil I imagine sitting way back and high up in a huge arena. The setlists are different enough also. Both are mandatory.
For anyone wanting a quick comparison between the 2010 and 2021's.
