As we aren't expecting any more Blue Note Tone Poet releases this year, I thought it'd be interesting to see which of the 16 albums released so far, were people's favourites.

I've loved this series, even through all the talk/debate/complaints of warbling etc, and I've gotten all of them bar one, Cassandra Wilson's Glamoured.

It's been a great source of listening pleasure and it's broadened my discovery of jazz in the process — long may it continue into next year and, hopefully, beyond!

Please pick your Top 5 favourites.

    Mine, in no preferred order:

    Andrew Hill — Black Fire
Chick Corea — Now He Sings, Now He Sobs
Grant Green — Born To Be Blue
    Sam Rivers — Contours
    Wayne Shorter — Etcetera

I went for Kenny Burrell, Donald Byrd, Dexter Gordon, Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson - but it was very tough as they are all great. Long may the series continue!

Interesting that Andrew Hill's Black Fire is in the lead despite the complaints of 'warble-gate' ;)

No love for Cassandra Wilson's Glamoured or Stanley Turrentine's Hustlin' ?

This fascinates me too. I've held off on that title because of complaints and haven't heard it yet. Do most people
    A. Not hear it
    B. Hear it but don't realize it is apparently an anomaly with a strongly negative connotation - essentially a "significant" error
    C. Hear it and understand it, but insist that the rest of the album is so wonderfully mastered and pressed that the pros outweigh the cons...

I voted for the only Tone Poet I own, Contours, all the rest I own in previous pressings/formats. If you're asking which contains my favorite music, that's a different question and the answer is Etc. & Face to Face.

Born To Be Blue is a must-have in my opinion. One of my favourites.

It's probably a combination of all three. It doesn't bother me at all. I'd still recommend it!

C for me - but there are passionate differences of opinion on this. Id suggest buy this one on Amazon and listen yourself. You can always return it that way. Its a fabulous set of music and well worth a chance.

Grant Green — Born To Be Blue
    Andrew Hill — Black Fire
Joe Henderson - State of the Tenor, Vol 2

It’s interesting that the more exploratory titles like Black Fire, Etcetera, and Contours are in the lead. I feel like there’s a hunger for more of this kind of music. Bring it on @Joe Harley!

Face to Face by Baby Face Willette is STRAIGHT fire. Damn I'm glad I discovered that record through this series.

I agree and that's why I've probably resisted buying it. I've heard it through streaming and it's just not connecting at all.

Introducing Kenny Burrell looks to be a popular vote. That one is just bubbling under my Top 5. I also really enjoy Mr. Shing-A-Ling — what a fun record!

Andrew Hill might get there, but this warbling is quite painful on side 2...
