Not sure he's ever "toured an album" before (it's usually quite the reverse!) or announced a multi-year tour. Difficult not to see it as one last defiant raging against the dying of the light. Hope he makes it to Asia at some point.
So I guess the million dollar question is.... For history's sake, do we say that the NET tour ended with the shutdown, and this is something different? (Yes, I know about the World Gone Wrong notes, but I'd say he was kidding).
Clearly Bob doesn't go along with the NET tag, so I think it is down to how the public and the media label it. I suspect when we all look back and assess Bob's career then the period of touring from 1988 until his final show will all be labelled the Neverending Tour. It's interesting that this Rolling Stone article refers to Bob resuming the NET, while saying it is billed as the Rough and Rowdy tour: Bob Dylan Announces Fall Tour Following Longest Break From Road Since 1984
Curious what to expect from the band - will anyone featured on Shadow Kingdom be a part, or will we get the pre-pandemic band?
A couple of things. The secondary market for tickets right now is the worst I have ever seen. So whoever wants to get in will have no problem. I have seen Dylan well over 20 times and I am not rushing to buy tickets for this. I was underwhelmed the last two times I saw him and if I go it would be the a last minute decision depending on price and the mood.
His 2019 tour was incredible. You should check out some video on YouTube. He sounded great, songs had great new arrangements and the band was great.
I haven't seen Bob since 2002, Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles (he was outstanding). Wouldn't mind checking him out again.
Bob has been great whenever I’ve seen him. Most of the folks who don’t like him tend to want him to sound like 60-70’s Dylan. It is different, but still great with a stellar band playing with him. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear he is coming to Nashville this run so I won’t be seeing him.
As I posted before in one of the 3 ongoing threads that were merged, but my post was scrubbed, I think His Bobness is having a bit of coy post pandemic snark calling this a 3 year world tour.
Thinking about the Pittsburgh area show. Last time I saw him was 2008. The 2002 show I saw in Charlotte was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. It was astounding.
My first Dylan show was in 1998. Setlists | The Official Bob Dylan Site Second song of the night was, " Senor Tales Of Yankee Power" , one of my absolute favorite's. Big time surprise. I went nuts. Like a kid at a KISS concert. I was piss drunk. Like a damn fool. Oblivious of my obnoxious demeanor to others in the surrounding seats. I was in a zone though. Loving every second of the performance. I had grooved on that tune a zillion times at home with the headphones cranked. ( Along with Changing Of The Guards & the whole Street Legal album) , So Senor, being the 2nd tune right off the bat put me in a very good mood. Of course, subsequently I realized it's not a Van Halen or Motley Crue concert so quickly adjusted my enthusiasm forth quick. But yet another exciting unexpected surprise came yet again a few tunes later when he did " Cocaine Blues" , which at the time so far as I know was from a bootleg album. Which I had. Not so sure everyone knew that one. But I did. ( Later on released on cd singles). But then yet again, they played Silvio. Never expected to hear that either. Many of my favorite Dylan tunes are in fact less appreciated album tracks. Not necessarily the top shelf material well respected. But nonetheless I dig what I dig. Anyhoo- I realized there's never ever actually been an ultimately perfect Bob Dylan concert setlist ever. So far as I can see by snooping around the setlist on the site & checking out bootlegs & whatnot. NEVER. Has Bob Dylan EVER performed an absolutely perfect setlist. Now it's not his fault of course. The body of work says it all. Impossible to condense into one 2 hour show. BUT- What if we could make suggestions.... Let's say.....15 tunes.....but not necessarily the big main well known expected iconic classics....no Blowin In The Wind for example....let's say very light on '60's era material... Let's say....a kick ass balls to the wall bombastic blowout of magnificent righteous power & unprecedented glory....... Blow The Balls Of A Rhino At 40 Paces.... BOB DYLAN ROCK THE JOINT 1-Honest With Me 2- Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar 3- Political World 4- Hurricane 5- Changing Of The Guards 6- Idiot Wind 7- Leppard Skin Pill Box Hat 8- Hazel 9- Brownsville Girl 10-Every Grain Of Sand 11- Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again 12- Man In The Long Black Coat 13- Senor Tales Of Yankee Power 14- Tangled Up In Blue 15- Cold Irons Bound Or something like that...give or take a few tunes here & there.... Lord have mercy....
I'll more than likely be checking him out at The Met in Philadelphia. Does anyone know if they require mandatory vaccination? I didn't see anything on their site.
