The free download as a taster for a drop of The Villager on Friday May 21.....? One can dream.....

It is only a dream, I'm sure. However, we now know from this and from Heylin's latest book that there are many, seemingly good quality, tapes in the archive that we have not heard. (Mr. Source did allude to this in one of his Rolling Stone interviews.) I don't think Heylin even mentions this 1962 Bailey tape although he does talk about several 1961 tapes made in that apartment by the Baileys. There is also a recording made by Cynthia Gooding at that 1961 residence at Gerde's alongside the Greenbriar Boys, among other treasures. Let's not forget Richard's Gaslight Tape, too.

You'd really think, in this of all years, "The Villager" would be a no-brainer. I suppose a lot it it would be Public Domain, in Europe at least, but an affordable no frills box is not going to be copied, surely. There would be little point. It could be complemented by a stand alone coffee table book of essays and images along the lines of the last couple of Lennon boxes.

I think it needs to be done before this new format - what's it called? Vinyl, or some such - takes over and forever wipes out the concept of affordable multi-disc box sets.

Yesterday the link still worked. Now it leads to an error page.

Yes. Recorded by Lilian and Mell Bailey - good friends to Bobby and Suze - in their apartment in 1962. It isn't dated. Heylin, in his latest book, describes several tapes made by the Baileys in their apartment in 1961. I don't think he mentions this 1962 tape.

Great! Hopefully this isn’t just a teaser for the museum. I hope to make a trip there when it is open, but most of my “research” will be done listening at home.

Should be after the Gaslight gig though, because the lyrics are more developed here. The Gaslight tape we also don't have a definite date on. Heylin claims it was in late September 62, rather than October 15, which has been claimed previously. He also claims, I believe, that the original reels for the Gaslight tape are undated, which should mean he has seen Alderson's tapes.

My thanks to the member here who messaged me a link to the 1962 home
recording "Don't Think Twice It's Allright."

My goodness this is wonderful. Absolutely glorious. This is the Bob Dylan I
love to listen to the most -- a young folk singer playing his guitar and singing
his original songs with confidence, enthusiasm and passion, when every time
he performed a song was a rediscovery of its content. If this is a sample of
the Bailey tape(s) I'm dying to hear the rest. It so good it makes the later
    stuff seem peripheral and smaller.

They can't withhold the rest of the Bailey tape(s). They just can't. The
appetite has been whet. More, please.

I tried to download that magnificent photo from 1974 and couldn't, either. So I'm thinking either an avalanche of users, or they've pulled the audio and photo back.

This is the (terrific) photograph. Can anyone identify the venue? Or identify themselves, perhaps?

We know it's January or February 1974.

Dylan's solo acoustic set was the highlight of the 1974 tour.
Listening to the tapes today the solo performances are really special.
He's probably playing "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)".

Not too fond of paparazzi business, but great to see him in action! He does look pretty well. Surely the trampoline visible in his Malibu garden is the explanation?
