Let me rephrase that...the entire output of studio outtakes from late 1969 to 1973 wouldn't be able to support a full on Bootleg Series release. Some of those tracks from the Harrison, Cash and Self Portrait era are really dire.

But they can absolutely cherry pick and make a brilliant 2 disc set. I'm sure there are still some gems locked away

Thanks for the tip. I bought it.
I expect Amazon USA to settle down to a price like that, maybe a tad lower. But if you live in a state where Amazon adds sales tax (like NY and others), there is a bump up. I also would not be surprised to see a site like importCDs, whether on their site or on Amazon marketplace, settle down to $98 or 99, but they add shipping.
Eventually we will start seeing used, played once (if at all) copies selling for $60 or so, but they will be snapped up.
Bull Moose has decent staff who will honor their customers concerns.

It's not only new copyright laws that have influenced these releases, it's the slowdown and eventual halt of catalog sales. Catalog used to be the bread and butter of the industry, they could always count on those sales even in the worst of times. That is over and done. If Bob wants the checks to keep coming in, and Columbia wants to move units like in the past, they must get new product out there now. And not give us a live track or two and a b-side. They were forced to open up the vault and get seriously generous. Very hard times in the music industry has made them all do the unthinkable.

And there is the issue that many homeowner/renter's insurance policies will insure hard copies but not digital downloads. But I understand both sides as I'm a format omnivore.

Ha! I have 1/2 a dozen or so shows from vinyl boot days to the more modern releases. The sensible side was thinking stick with those as live '66 Dylan gets played maybe half a dozen times tops in a good year. And luckily I still have new music interests. But buying it is now winning out for so many reasons stated above. And thanks to this board one can find out if there's a troublesome disc, so it's not like one has to rush through the set looking for them. If so inclined after an initial rush of playing a few shows it's easy enough to taper back to a show every 4-8 weeks as it's not like anyone is forcing me to play it every day, leaving plenty of time for new music too.

I think LARS from the RAH on May 27 is on the second volume of the Genuine Bootleg Series.

They should have made the download/cdrs official releases, especially the archival ones from 75, 78, 80 and 84.

It was "the nightly ritual." The boy's would listen back for ways to improve. As the tour went on and the hecklers got louder, they'd just get baffled... they sounded great on the tapes but the boos kept coming.

That's incorrect, that is the performance from the 26th.

Manchester is listed as "CBS Records recording" but we know BS 4 was mostly sourced from Nagra, so does this mean we're getting a completely different sourced version? In the BS 4 liner notes it was stated the quality 0f the CBS tapes were not up to par so they opted for the Nagra. Were they able to clean it up recently?

Furthermore, the RAH shows are listed as CBS as well and the Tell Me Momma sample sounds great. Is that in fact CBS or actually Nagra?

I know that folk singer, the one who does Blowin in the Wind! Should be good, my mom likes that song too. Let's tune in for family hour!

What are people complaining about? 36 CDs, 31 days in most months--that's only a bit more than listening to one CD a day. :agree:

RAH (both nights) are Columbia recordings. Three track. The Sheffield recording from the 16th is the same. Manchester was recorded by Columbia and also on the Nagra recorder. Working from memory here, but I think the Manchester acoustic set on BS 4 is sourced from the Nagra recording, with patches for drop-outs inserted from the multitrack. Manchester electric was sourced from the CBS recording - I think. Going entirely from memory here.

It's entirely possible that both RAH nights were recorded with both recorders also. I imagine that the CBS multitrack recordings from those two nights render the Nagras from there obsolete.

I suppose there are others like me who may concentrate on all of the acoustic sets, or at least those with high fidelity

Heck, I may just listen to all the "Fourth Time Around"s or "Visions of Johanna"s back to back in order and float away. . . .

Sources, including Olof Bjorner's files, list 4/19 OR 4/20 as the date for the Melbourne line recordings. All the vinyl bootlegs are sourced from these line recordings, which the new box dates as 4/20.

The 4/19 Melbourne audience tape is newly discovered, at least to my knowledge. At the very least I can attest that it was not circulating up until 2002 (my collection was "complete" at that time, in terms of anything known to circulate). Olof does not list an audience tape for either Melbourne date, so it is news to him as well. Perhaps someone can chime in with more information?

I'm a little confused on reading the liner notes, but I believe you're right in that BS4 acoustic set was Nagra and electric set was CBS. Still, that means we're in fact getting the CBS acoustic Manchester which was deemed inferior. It will be interesting to hear.

The moment I got online tonight and starting looking through my e-mail was when my "Happy Camper" alert went off inside of me. I'm really counting my blessings right now. Man, I have no complaints right now.

seems like the booklet is also (partly) made up of pennebaker stills. beautiful colors, makes the eternal itch for '66 footage so much worse!

Some people will never 'get it'.

There's a Facebook page where people are saying this set seems "boring" and they were hoping for a Blu-Ray of 'MTV Unplugged' or something from the 1990's instead.

    :help:

I take back what I said. I kind of like the look. And the cd covers are very nice. Ok ok, this is a pretty cool set I suppose.

The backlash from the oldies here is because weve had much of this stuff for many years. I wish he had put this stuff out when I was digging around every corner for the next gem and cared. Then again, I bet I had more fun ;)
