I personally love it. It's so idiosyncratic. Like his harmonica playing, it really gets across the things that words simply can't convey.

Sorry for your loss, glad you found a little solace in the music

Disagree with the comparison to his harmonica playing which can really lift off and has the advantage of "standing alone" from the rest of the music--a special event.

I think his plonkety-plonking holds back the music and prevents it from lifting off in ways that it could. That said, he has to do what he has to do to keep his focus, so I can't begrudge it too much.

It was the absolute highlight of the SB show (in my opinion). Amazing.

well, I like the additions/changes to the set. pretty thrilled to see such a set by a big act that isn't stacked with the "hits" hope it stays this way for the tour

Astonishing if true. That's one change I would never have anticipated.

I'm intrigued. What's the politics, dynamics within Bob's band? If not Bob, who calls the shots or wields the ax?

    bob definitely wields the ax.
but like he told Kenny Aaronson ' i dont give a f who plays the bass'

I really have a hard time believing this and I'm curious about the source of such insider information.

Was at the 1st 2 shows and Bob himself was on fire, leading from the front - quite literally - haven't seen him out from behind his piano so much in ages. SQ in the lovely Santa Barbara Bowl was superb. Heard a brief sample (Lennie Bruce) from a capture by JB and it reflects that.

Can't believe Tony was in any danger of departure unless something concrete explains otherwise?

The SB show was absolutely amazing. Definitely the best that I’ve ever seen from him. Voice was incredible and he was engaged the entire time.

That Not Dark Yet from Irvine is just beautiful... It's better than the wonderfully recorded Santa Barbara version. SQ not as good for Irvine but perfectly listenable nonetheless - seriously recommended listening.
