Mine is still sealed, not planning on breaking that open. Its clearly not a heavyweight vinyl reissue, looks fairly standard/thin. I don't have a vinyl copy to compare the artwork too. But top right and bottom right corner are bent, not helped by lightweight packaging. For the money I'm certainly not complaining, if amazon.uk still have stock i'll request a return this afternoon and deliver back to my local store that takes their returns and ask for a replacement. And will request they package it better. I had 3 deliveries today, ordered 2 from the amazon france sale - AC/DC - Let there be rock and Jimi Hendrix Smash Hits (cowboy cover version, sticker on it says poster included, guess what wasn't included!:sigh: ) Not my day for amazon deliveries.

At least AC/DC was fine, 1 out of 3 isn't good tho.

But back to your question. Hell, i'll open the seal, doesn't change whether they'll accept it back or not.

I take it back, it does seem like 150 or 180g. Just an inner sleeve, nothing else. To be honest that's all I was expecting. What came with the original??

    It’s 150g, according to Amazon.com.

UK originals didn’t come with anything extra but CBS Holland pressings in '77 for France came with an extra lyric sheet.

PS -My Hendrix Smash Hits, bought in the FNAC in France for 10€ has the poster inside -as it should.

I was wondering if someone would post this. This is one of my favourite Dylan performances of all time, probably Top 3, studio or live. I'm in awe every time I hear it. The band is utterly on fire.

Yea, the band is certainly on fire. But he was just so hooked on that stop/start thing, it was like he was throwing songs into that template and forcing them to fit.
That must have been one confusing day to devoted Dylan fans in the audience--the beginning of Bob playing whole sets of songs that have been totally re-cast onto something else.

I think Hard Rain is the best of the pre-Bootleg Series live albums. It is one of the few live albums with a definite theme as pointed out by Paul Williams. The first vinyl side documents the feeling of both loss and freedom as the Bob/Sara marriage was truly on the rocks at this point. The second side takes the three most distinct relationship songs on Blood On The Tracks and throws in "I Threw It All Away" for good measure. As a construct I wouldn't want to change it but there are some wonderfully unique moments from the 1976 RTR so I still pray for a 1975-1975 big box at some point.

I have a copy of the TV Guide w/o Dylan on the cover, kept after I saw the show. I have seen him live three times since.

The inner sleeve should be grey paper that looks somewhat like analog TV static from back in the old days.
If the inner sleeve in this new edition is white paper it will set the wrong mood.
One can't listen to the Hard Rain LP coming out of a white inner sleeve it's just ridiculous to do so.

I somehow downloaded the telly broadcast and then extracted the soundtrack to that into MP3. Whilst not the greatest sound [wiv today's jiggery pokery apps for audio I imagine I could give it a shot in the arm and make it good enough to listen to], it's the broadcast wiv just the music and none o'those effin annoying adverts that so mar the Dick Cavett Rolling Stones thang from a few years befo'.

Can anyone comment on the 2017 reissue. How does it sound? My original vinyl is one sad sonic piece of poly.

I remember hearing something really good a few years back but it turns out to be further back than 2017 (a sing of aging, surely):

"Vinyl: In October 2011, “Hard Rain” (MOVLP345) was released in Europe on 180g vinyl by Dutch vinyl specialists Music On Vinyl. It appears that Steve Berkowitz re-mastered this album in New York especially for this MOV release. Prior to this release, “Hard Rain” had never before been remixed or re-mastered. This release is therefore unique to MOV and the sound quality is by far the best that’s currently available on CD."

I'm not sure if they meant "better than" what's available on CD or what, but my recollection is of a vinyl-only release. I'm reminded that now I might be able to afford it - so thanks for asking the question!

The source I found for that info covers all Dylan releases up to 2015 and is from the venerable magazine Isis:

Uh sorry, replying to a comment from 4 years ago... :)

When I first watched the video, I also noticed that Rob Stoner's bass doesn't fit with what he's playing at all - but only during Idiot Wind! Upon closer inspection, I found out why he overdubbed his bass part on that song: At exactly 46:23, he breaks a bass string! At 46:30, he hastily pulls the string off the instrument... he then continues the second half of the song with the three stings he has left.

    Here's a current youtube link:

My DVD is a little higher quality, and you can actually see the string dangling for a second, before he rips it off.

So I suppose this here's a pretty good justification for an overdub...

I just got the 2011 MOV from Europe…AAA, from the master tapes. This is finally the one! Boy am I happy. It’s crisp and accurate, not the mudfest that was my Canadian original.

    Happy happy!
