Moderators: before you tell me off for a double poll, I deliberately skipped a week in the series so that I could post Shadows in the Night and Fallen Angels together. Hope that's OK.

Your favourite track? And why's it your favourite?

There is lot s of stuff to like on Shadows but for me none more than Austin leaves. In fact Dylans reading of this has become one of ny all tine favourite recording by anyone. Exqusite arrangements and Dylans-sometines no more than a whisper-vocal delivery nails the song. In fact Dylans weary almost broken voice and the old-timey feel of the arrangement gives the sings words a real meaning
    As good as it gets

I went with "That Lucky Old Sun," which he actually performed live several times long before the Shadows album. He performed it great back then too.

    Tough choice.

Win - "I'm A Fool To Want You"

Place - "That Lucky Old Sun"

    Show - "Some Enchanted Evening"

It's got to be "I'm A Fool To Want You". Whatever you think of the album, that's one of those rare songs that it's impossible to ruin (the only other one I can think of right now is "Trains And Boats And Planes").

    "What'll I Do" is a close second.

I went for 'Some Enchanted Evening' though 'Lucky Old Sun' comes a close second. I never really gave this album time of day when it first appeared but listening now I reckon these are some of Dylan's best vocals since the mid-nineties. Hope he does an original album soon with these kinda vocals...

Likewise, I enjoy it more now than when it was released. But Triplicate is better.

I love this album so much, it’s almost impossible to choose a favourite. What’ll I do perhaps, or maybe Autumn Leaves. A superb collection of songs, though.

Edit: I’ve actually voted Stay With Me, for its exquisite prayer-like quality.

Tough one. I never really thought much of Lucky Old Sun, but I thought Dylan did wonders with it. But he also too a pretty much forgotten song in Stay With Me and turned it in to a sort of moving prayer he could have written. That's my choice.

That's a reflection of the quality of songwriting...because Dylan gives it a pretty good shot....

Beautiful album, representing a renaissance in Dylan's vocal quality and technique. That said, it's a little "stiff" (and solemn) compared to Triplicate, which has all the prowess, but is somehow warmer (and, of course, more varied).

Shadows has something of the Slow Train Coming vibe, striving for perfection, focused, concentrated (but, similarly, just a tad risk averse?)

Oh, and I put "Autumn Leaves," but there are three or so others equally as good, not least "Some Enchanted Evening" (which does, indeed, completely charm).

Very interesting comparison. It seems like on both albums Bob was more focused than usual or had more idea how he wanted them to turn out.

That Lucky Old Sun, but I really love the entire album. Shortly after this album came out, my longtime girlfriend and I were going through a really rough time, and one day I came home from work and all of her stuff was gone and there was a note on the table. For weeks I would come home and throw this album on the turntable and just sit there drinking a beer and thinking about everything. We got back together a few months later, and are still together today, but this album really helped me out in one of the lowest periods of my life.

    I don’t mind saying again ......

in 2015 this album launched me into a five year long obsession with Frank Sinatra’s music; and the obsession continues! I actually would go for several months at time where I listened to Sinatra ONLY. Columbia. Capitol. Reprise. Live recordings. Glorious! “People say I’m crazy ...”

Anyway this album and “Why Try To Change Me Now” did it for me!

and yeah I did get back to Bob too!
