That would be acceptable if I could go 3 months without another (f word redacted) comic book movie. Bond will have had 25 movies in 57 years. I believe there will be 57 comic book movies this decade. Not hatin’ on the genre, I love Batman, but every week there is a trailer for a new movie.
Think Boyle had other commitments. Bond producers/Craig wanted to get Bond25 in production as soon as possible. So what suitable director is available at this short notice? I assume they have a ready script ?
Just hire Ron Howard Btw, Justin Kroll of Variety is telling McQuarrie is a possible replacement Justin Kroll on Twitter
they should get christopher nolan to do it. make it the last bond movie ever and leave it on a cliffhanger like inception.
Consider: * Craig is 50, has portrayed Bond longer than any other actor, and seems less and less interested in playing JB * the final (or most recent) film of each actor with > 2 films stank: DAF, AVTAK, DAD, SPECTRE * Christmas 2019 is already full of tentpoles: Wonder Woman 1984, Death on the Nile, Sonic the Hedgehog, Terminator, Frozen 2, Jumanji 3, Star Wars Episode IX * Casino Royale proved that if you hew closely to the Fleming original, not even Purvis & Wade can c*ck up the script * With the financial success of the DC (Daniel Craig, not the comic book publisher) movies, EoN have more Federal Reserve Notes than Fort Knox's tungst - er - gold can cover THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: * Craig's Bond decides to "spend more time with his family - er - Madeleine" * Bond 25 is pushed back to Summer or Thanksgiving 2020 * Bond is portrayed by a new thespian in each outing. EON get the hot box office draw of the year, each new portrayal generates excitement, nobody gets burned out (DC) or too old (RM). Yes I said "thespian" to allow for gender-neutrality. * The scripts faithfully follow the Fleming novels, in order (starting with LALD since CR is rather fresh in people's minds) and (optional optional) set in the era in which they were written * EoN uses its "more money than God" bank account to have two films in production at all times: one on location and one at Pinewood. Releases come every two years.
I'll say... oh well, back to Purvis/Wade's script and a journeyman director, as was the original plan before Danny Boy stepped in to the fray. Man, they're cutting it tight again, just like happened with Quantum of Solace back in 2007, only this time, it's even tighter.. it's now late August, shooting was to begin on December 3rd, and they now have no director, and a script that may or may not even be remotely finished yet, and that's even if Purvis/Wade are available for the next three months to give their screenplay a polish. I wonder if Boyle wanted to take a more 'radical' approach to Bond... he can be pretty political at times, and that maybe chaffed against the essentially conservative approach that EON have taken since the franchise's inception. My interest and overall enthusiasm/anticipation for this film has just dipped again considerably, alas...
I thought that before Boyle came on board; Spectre just sucked the air out of and my enthusiasm towards that series... and I'm a HUGE lifelong Bond fan!!! Alas, with the news of Boyle's departure, I'm starting to feel that way again...
The Bond series needs a James Gunn-like director to revitalize it as FUN. I don't want Bond to be John Le Carre, I want it to be Mission Impossible.
Can't wait to read about why Boyle bailed or was fired. Fired would mean he at least got some money for his commitment?
