The Velvets really were like the house band, with the Hallucinations (and later J. Geils Band) and the Lost also early on.

Their manager owned a piece of the place.

It's good, but I'm not sure it beats the Grande.

Btw, the Tea Party posters are great although pretty hard to find.

Or how about Tony Williams Lifetime opening for The Who (on their Tommy tour) in October '69? My mind is working hard to keep up with the brilliance of that, even just by reading the lineup.

Jay Leno probably saw some of these as he mentioned it during a Rod Stewart interview on his show. As usual Rod pretended he doesn't remember the late 60's/early 70's.

Question: There is a show from June 1968 listed as:

    June 1968
1 Van Morrison Controversy / Ill Wind

Was this a band that Van put together? Or is it a typo (a slash was left out), and there was a separate band called Controversy (unrelated to Van)?

Creem magazine once talked about a fist-fight between Lou Reed
and Dickey Betts. I always wondered when those two would ever
have crossed paths. Now I know....

Very curious to see Barry & the Remains on the 1969 schedule. My understanding is they disbanded shortly after the '66 Beatles tour. What did they sound like in '69?

No kidding! I wonder what the scene backstage was like.

Incidentally, my office in the South End is a short walk from the original Boston Tea Party. The building houses a 7-Eleven store and condos now, but at least the city put a plaque on the exterior.

I would say both, Williams was a Moon fan. They were both unorthodox and unique, throwing conventional rules (and in Moon's case TV's) out the window. :D

Remains sounded pretty much the same, the guitars sounded a bit "1969", but overall not a big change in sound. Been a long time since I listened to it.
