King Crimsons 80s set 'on and off the road' is the best of the lot to my mind. It covers three albums, a lost album and a great live album plus a further credible album of out takes and another of remixes. Stunning value to my mind.

Elton John 'to be continued' apart from the later stuff

Lou Reed vinyl volume 1 - worth it for Street Hassle alone

Best box of 1980s was the The Velvet Underground. All the Verve/MGM studio albums and the 2 LPs of unreleased material. Turned out the last analogue mastering of the albums as I recall.

    Best boxes of 1990s.
Vakio. 4 x 10" by Panasonic. Their first album . Special classical music style blue slip-case with runners for each transparent 10" LP
    Tony Conrad Early Minimalism 4xCD

    Best boxes of 2000s
Faust The Wümme Years. Best place to start a Faust collection
John Cale New York in the 60s 3xCD or 5xLP in black wooden box!
Pere Ubu Datapanik in Year Zero 4xCD remastered 2009. Nicer tiny box than previous version.

    Best box recent
Naked City Studio Albums Box. Remastered. Sounds great. Box design by Chippy.
    Françoise Bayle 50 Ans D'Acousmatique. 7xCD.

Meant on LP. I did see signify is available on CD. There was rumors they would be released separately, guess it hasn't happened yet.

I assume the LPs that are available separately are just older masters.

Unfortunately, the PT catalog is a bit of a mess. What I'd like to see is for SW to go back, get them all up to a good mastering standard, and make sure all of the bonus content from previous reissues was included (along with anything else in the can worth throwing in). It's a bit grating to think of picking up the new Signify CD version knowing I'll have to keep the copy I already have for the second disc of additional music.

Naturally, seeing a now-standardized series of LPs released as well would be great.

I think his intention is to remaster them all, not sure about the bonus tracks though, I agree on that point. He needs to take a break from remastering the entire decade of the 70s haha

See, on that last point, I'm torn as hell. I think he's doing an amazing service for the bands he's remixing and the sets coming out with his work fit the definition of "archival" as far as I'm concerned. Now, if only we could make it so he didn't require sleep anymore, we'd be set. :D

Both had vinyl and CDs of the albums, at least 4 live concerts, one dvd of rare performances, and an interview disk.

Side note: every single Who boxed set was, in one way or another, a disappointment. Some were more disappointing than others, but literally every single one of them had obvious flaws that could have conceivably been easily avoided.

Totally agree. I am trying to keep up and buy them all, he just needs to show a little more love to his own music. Just got a couple of the Yes albums and they are fantastic

These box sets are a great start, just wish they were available separately. I missed the first one, trying to track it down. Got the next on preorder. I just hope he gets through the whole catalog.
