  4. Sure it duplicates a lot of what I already own but the Beach Boys' recent Made In California box is a real winner. If you haven't delved much into the Beach Boys after hearing their hits, it's a great introduction to the group.

KinkySmallFace1991 Will you come back to me, Sweet Lady Genevieve?

I'll see your Playback and raise you The Live Anthology. And since I'm such a Petty freak, I got the Deluxe Editions with the 5th disc. This was all I listened to for several months on end.

I recall being knocked out (loaded) by Bob Dylan's "Ten Of Swords".

Seeing the LP box set sitting in the record store, pristine and gleaming, just as I was hoping, was so relieving. I eagerly bought it with hard earned cash.

Although much of it has been legitimately released, since, at the time it seemed to delivered what my music appetite was craving. Unheard Dylan gems!

In all honesty, I know a big factor was the timing - I was becoming a huge Dylan fan at the time. So, the sound quality could have been worse and I'd still have been amazed.
The scarcity and immensity of the box set also made it seem so monolithic and epic.

Until listening, I'd been struggling with a tenacious respiratory infection. My family doctor would likely feed his ego by taking credit for resolution through a 10-day antibiotic regimen. I know better: The raucous, unconstrained barrage of Basie's punk jazz effected fundamental immunological changes that evaporated my viral load like Kirk's phaser on kill. Bzzzzzzt....phoooosh! (my actual pulmonary soundtrack during recovery).

The following box sets cover a lot of territory and have great packaging and informative booklets, etc.
    The Complete Stax singles 1959-1968
    Complete Motown Singles 1964
    1965
    1966
Tougher Than Tough The Story of Jamaican Music
Smithsonian Collection of Classic Country Music- vinyl. (The CD issue of this is lacking, the vinyl is essential)
Hi Times The Hi Records R&B years
    Nuggets Original Artyfacts 1965-1968
    Vee Jay theDefinitive Collection
    The Fire Fury Records Story
    Beg Scream and Shout
Can you Dig it the 70s Soul Experience
One Kiss Leads To Another - Girl Group Sound
    Phil Spector Back to Mono
    Atlantic Rhythm and Blues- 1947-1974

The last 2 and the Vee Jay have paper booklets, whereas the others are glossy and have generally better presentation.

  19. As far as I'm aware, every box set and super deluxe edition album released by the Velvet Underground has been pretty boss.

I'm sure over the 23 pages, The Beatles have been mentioned.

Seems the 2009 CD & 2014 LP mono box sets didn't disappoint, while the 2009 stereo box set sounds fantastic, they didn't include nice mini LPs like the mono set. Also the 2012 stereo LP box set left people disappointed as it was not AAA, and again the albums covers were not exact replicas of the originals.

Here's one little beef nobody seems to mention. While the 2009 mono CD set included stereo version on Help & Rubber Soul, they should also have included the 2 remaining mini LP stereo albums (Abbey Road & Let It Be) to make it a complete canon box set.

*** Dont even get me going on the 2014 US CD box set, that used the 2009 UK recordings plus a bit of trickery. They should have just released a Capitol box set Volume 3!

The 2009 Green Apple USB apparently didn't disappoint, as it was in high res, but was released only stereo!! why not also include it in mono?? And more importantly, why include Past Masters, when they could have very well included the nice covers & cover art Singles & EPs that didn't make it to an album in canon sequence?????

    Agreed!

And they should have mastered Abbey Road and Let it Be in the same manner that the original stereo mix of Help & Rubber Soul was mastered in for the 2009 mono box.
