During the 2007-2008 WGA strike I worked continuously on Fast and Furious, the 4th in the series at Universal Studios. Only the WGA were on strike, so if a production had the final script in hand they could carry on. The way the contracts work no guild may call a strike in support of another striking guild, however individual members may always make the personal choice about crossing picket lines. Many TV series shooting in NYC wound up shutting down prior to SAG-AFTRA calling their strike in early July because enough IATSE crew and other guild's members wouldn't cross the WGA picket lines.

Would networks be allowed to produce
    new shot-for-shot remakes of old
(just an example) Barnaby Jones episodes?
Or whatever old shows they own.

Yes, but without any actors in the shot.

  6. Now that would be one darn interesting Barnaby Jones episode!

    What about all-CGI shot-for-shot remakes?

I spoke with a neighbor’s daughter yesterday, who works overseas, usually with a U.S.-based TV production co. She was visiting here, after having relocated to Ireland, the family's ancestral home. She typically works (freelance) as an AD and said everyone's overall feeling is one of confusion and uncertainty. It’s not clear to most folks exactly what work can proceed. Script changes are not allowed, while technically re-shooting a scene is.

She mentioned that Dakota Fanning was working there, and refused to cross a picket line, and so stopped a production. She also said she had worked with Dakota for a time and found her to be incredibly professional and an AD's dream. Other actors, I gather, can treat requests and scheduled plans as a personal challenge to their ego.

I didn't care one way or another about the strikes until I binged the two seasons of Ghosts over the last couple of days. Now I need my Ghosts fix, get cracking on ending the strike.

    This response is incredibly clever.
You must be in one of the picket lines!

I just watched the trailer for Saw X and I have an idea for the next film. It includes Hollywood studio execs and Jigsaw.

Ironically, the post you’re responding to could have been written by AI.

Bill Mahr is a comedian, nothing else. He takes sides, depending which way the wind is blowing in order to cast attention on himself.

As of late, he has decided the best path for him is to enter the quasi political arena.

If so, it would still be better than any marvel movie AI or not.

No, he's a talk show host who has conducted discussions on serious social and political issues for years, and has been widely recognized as such. And it's Maher.
