Not a fan of the final season as noted above... Todd and the neo-Nazis too contrived and obvious for my taste... finale episode itself was a yawn... now if it had ended the season before with the episode of Gus' death, I'd say that rivaled The Shield's last episode... final season doesn't so much jump the shark as offer diminishing returns...

I’d agree for the most part that those were contrivances. Also, the woman with the Stevia; it was obvious from the first time we saw it that it was foreshadowing.

However I liked the show a lot.

Lots of talk about the Sopranos lately, due to it being the 20th anniversary. I loved the last scene. FWIW my vote is that Tony dies.

Never saw the whole run of The Shield, but I remember it being a tough show to watch. Maybe I’ll go back for another try.

Yeah...Gus' death. How was that not contrived? Right up to the point he walks out of the room with the CGI half-head missing and straightens his tie before dropping dead. As if we didn't know what the explosion meant. The show just didn't know when enough was enough. Actually a great point to juxtapose the last scenes of Sopranos and Breaking Bad. How to end a show tastefully without overdoing it. And not.

I've come around to the idea that Tony dies also. Chase seems to have confirmed this, indirectly of course.

Just started rewatching the Sopranos, and almost done with Season 1.
What a great show it was. Almost forgot just how well it was put together.
Now, the finale, that's another story.

The episode where Jessy trying to kill a fly up top. Even a last retard would not try to climb that shaky construction, never mind managed to keep balance. The whole "fly" episode was intolerable.
The great series suffered from fillers. 'Better Call Saul" much less so imo.

Totally agree about the fly episode. If memory serves, it was Walter who wasted the entire episode chasing the fly, and Jesse who finally killed it. But both had long since broken with their character as laid out earlier in the show.

I disagree about filler in Better Call Saul. I think the show is at its best when it challenges itself to avoid descending too deeply into BB setup. At this point, BCS seems to be engaging in that setup as its main arc, which I view as "borrowed interest." Opportunity lost.

Afraid going off topic, but in BSC I was so fascinated by his brother's character. So brilliantly written and performed, I just couldn't get enough.
