fmfxray373 Capitol LPs in the 70s were pretty good.

Walter White as anti-hero is an insult to anti-heroes.

    Breaking Bad :
There's a Easter egg scene featuring a Breaking Bad DVD on Hank's bookshelf when he's filming Jesse( behind Jesse).

  6. Breaking Bad. As great as The Sopranos were, I love Breaking Bad more. Much more.

I loved all these shows, but The Wire is number 3 for me. Just because of season 2....

Breaking Bad and Sopranos are both great. Can't decide...

Breaking Bad in the clear poll lead, a indication I guess of its greatness.

Honestly, both BB and Sopranos were so amazing on every level that I could make a strong argument for either.

I said years ago that BB had slightly surpassed Sopranos, but having watched a bunch of the latter lately again, I watch and think, "How is the Sopranos not the best show ever?" But if I watched BB, I'd think the same thing. 1a and 1b for sure.

Hmm. Breaking Bad and Sopranos over the Wire.....

I really want to quote The Wire's Senator Clay Davis. It's just one word. One long, drawn-out word...

Breaking bad was incredible from start to finish, although it did lag a little in S2. Sopranos a close second, but some of the plot lines and subplots were less compelling. Wire was excellent but again S2 and S3 were weak after an amazing start. All compelling TV though...

US based shows. Is Breaking Bad the most popular ( in the past twenty years at least)?

It is hard to judge popularity, but if you look at their TV ratings, I suspect Sopranos would win by a lot over Breaking Bad, simply because BB was a show that had a tiny following at the start and then word of mouth got out and then it was huge by the last few seasons. Sopranos pretty much took off from the start, IIRC.

That could be true, but I wonder if the Sopranos being on HBO - a premium cable channel - vs Breaking Bad being on AMC - typically included in basic cable - might influence those ratings comparisons.

I liked the Sopranos a lot, but at times it meandered through some very uninteresting sub-plots or just abandoned them altogether. I had next to no interest in the lives of AJ or Meadow or Furio crushing on Carmela (are you kidding me?) or the creepy priest and more. There is at least enough extraneous stuff to fill a full season.

Strongly disagree. There was no filler in Sopranos--not even the dream sequences. It was all important character dev and while AJ, Meadow and Carmella were not as "dramatic" as Tony's crime life, it was central to the story and informed most of the content with Melfi.

Agreed. How Tony's kids act and turn out is kinda important to his arc. And The Sopranos was not just supposed to be a show about mobsters living their lives and killing people. The show was about Tony and how his inner demons affected him and his family.
