Was just listening to Before and After Science this am.
Like many albums by BE there is a combination of experimental and conventional song.

It got me thinking about the vocal box set i used to own...should never have sold it :( and what an Eno vocal pop oriented singles album would be.
I personally would look forward to this.
I would think Julie with, here he comes, spinning away, this, how many worlds... but i don't own the whole catalog so i would love some other brian pop vocal song suggestions

Nice idea - I enjoy Eno in small doses, his full albums set me adrift, I prefer song by song.

To your pop album I would add

I'll Come Running To Tie Your Shoe

801 version of Tomorrow Never Knows

and my stone Eno fave! . . .

Great list. I'd add "Baby's On Fire" and "The Great Pretender"

Edit: Maybe a little "weird" for "Pop"

Excellent list. I personally would add St. Elmo's Fire somewhere and definitely Baby's On Fire as the album closer.

Eno's cover of William Bell's Soul Classic You Don't Miss Your Water, notably also covered by Otis Redding on the Otis Blue album.

YES! Forgot St Elmos. How I dunno.
Baby's On Fire..Almost made it but it's skews more "odd Eno" than Pop?

I agree that Baby's On Fire is more "odd" Eno, but it begins like a Pop song. To have it as a closer would serve as a great segway into the odder stuff as the next step for newcomers to explore. And I just adore that song.

Don't forget his 1990 collaboration with John Cale, Wrong Way Up. For the both of them it would be considered quite "mainstream" or "pop". It is one of my favorite albums! Of course his first four albums (that is, the ones with vocals) are essential also.

I don't if any of Eno's stuff would be classified "Pop" lol. But that's for a "What does "genre" mean thread.

Another fine collaboration, with David Byrne Everything That Happens Will Happen Today

You never walked around for days repeating over and over in your head:

    Baby's on fire
Better throw her in the water
    Look at her laughing
Like a heifer to the slaughter

    Or regularly bursting out in:

    In the blue August moon
    In the cool August moon

I do and for me that's the hallmark of a good pop song.

And yes, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today is a fine album

"Broken Head" from the Eno/Moebius/Roedelius album After the Heat has him singing, plus drums and a bassline. Which I suppose is enough for an Eno song to be considered anything close to "pop". He also sings on the closing song but it's the vocal track from "King's Lead Hat" played backwards.

I like the lyrics too, but I gotta admit they aren't exactly top 40 material...
I was just a broken head
I stole the world that others punctured
Now I stumble through the garbage
Slide and tumble, slide and stumble
    Beak and claw, remorse reminder
Slide and tumble, slide and stumble
Back and forth and back to nothing
Keep them tidy, keep them humble

Chop and change to cut the corners
    Sharp as razors shiny razors
Stranded on a world that's dying
    Never moving, hardly trying

I was just a broken head
I stole the world that others plundered
Now I stumble through the garbage
Slide and tumble, slide and stumble
