One band I never see mentioned here is Scottish folk rockers Wolfstone. Great tight band with excellent musicianship and songwriting. I was lucky enough to see them at Jammin' Java in Vienna, Virginia when they finally toured here. Terrific show.
An ultimate 4 cd compilation set is Anthems In Eden. An early vinyl folkrock comp was titled something like The Electric Muse. Never seen a copy of this box and been forever on my lp wantlist. Speaking of box - Nick Drake "Fruit Tree". Need it! Yesterday listened to AL JONES short lp, "Alun Ashworthy-Jones". Its on early Parlophone, so probably a devil to find. I like his voice - sorta like Al Stewart.
We saw Dougie a few years back in Tampa Florida , wonderful show , he is here with some friends singing his signature song and one of the defining Scots/ Irish songs of the last 50 years .
Is that Justin Trudeau on the cover of the first Morris On? All 3 Morris On lps (and the last cd) are tops!
Not sure what your budget is, but All New Electric Muse is plentiful on discogs: Electric Muse: The Story Of Folk Into Rock (Vinyl, UK, 1975) For Sale | Discogs
Great idea for a thread! I've long thought i should venture deeper into this world and here's my guide right here. (The English side that is.... I have tons of Irish and Scottish in my collection)
Their first two are the ones to get, they rely more on their harmonies. The more recent albums find them rocking out, which is still nice but not as transfixing.
Based in the US, Roger Drawdy and the Firestarter are a killer Celtic rock outfit. From the bio page; Nominated TOP CELTIC ROCK GROUP 2010, 2011, & 2012 by the Irish Music Association, Irish Singer/Songwriter Roger Drawdy and his band the Firestarters play a mix of Traditional and original music with a distinctive sound. "Air punching acoustic rockers" is how Irish Music Magazine described The Firestarters' intensity. Thought provoking lyrics, haunting melodies, and thunderous live performances are the keys to their success. That's not just marketing hype.... I've seen them live a few times and they always deliver.
There are five Morris On albums: Morris On Son Of, Grandson Of Great Grandson Of The Mother Of All Morris Albums. All worth owning if you like English country dance tunes and songs.
Nic Jones, one of the finest guitarists of all time. One of my favourites, a traditional Scottish folk song. (Road 102, Child 239) Nic Jones - "Annachie Gordon"
