For me it was a time when buying a single was special, and while not expensive, was still a bit of money for a schoolkid.

So I made sure I played both sides a lot and got to know the B Side well.

What are some of your favourite B Sides from that time?

And it doesn't matter if the B Side was on an album. I wasn't buying albums back then.

Here's one to start. B side to The Zombies Tell Her No.

Leave Me Be - The Zombies (1964)

Crackling at the start and not a perfect copy. Sounds great and just right for a 9 year old kid.

Sir Douglas Quintet. B-side to "Mendocino." Some cool effects that are different than the stereo album version.

One of my favourites by the Zombies, although not a B-side in the UK, where it was released as an A-side between 'She's Not There' and 'Tell Her No'. I also love the Sonny & Cher version (the B-side to 'Have I Stayed Too Long')

I think it’s just edited - definitely the flip of Yes I Will.

Where was Harry Rag on a B-Side? Amazing track though!

My vote goes to the following:

The Searchers - I Pretend I’m With You (Flip of Don’t Throw Your Love a Away)
The Hollies - I’ve Got a Way of My Own (flip of If I Needed Someone)
Lulu - Without Him (Flip of I’m a Tiger).

I remember when I played the Lulu tune, it was my first experience of Nilsson’s songwriting outside the Monkees - and I was utterly floored.

'Leave Me Be' wasn't a hit as a UK single, which I imagine is why it was not an A-side in most other countries. 'Woman' was the UK B-side for LMB -
