That's what I'm interested to know. I had an opportunity to briefly talk to Thom Zimny a few years back. He said there is tons of footage from '74 till about '80 shot by Barry Rebo, particularly rehearsals and assorted stuff from telegraph hill. Who knows if it will ever see the light of day. I hope so.
That would be great. At the same time; reunion era High quality multiple camera shows would be awesome
It's his show - he can let whoever he wants sing. Doesn't mean you have to like it, but it's his stage to do with as he wishes. Do you feel displeased whenever Bruce brings out guests?
Yes. Every single time. Off the top of my head, I've seen Southside Johnny, Terence Trent D'Arby, Edwin Starr, Eric Burdon, Don Henley, Elliott Murphy, Paul McCartney, John Fogerty, Joe Ely, probably more. Never seen a good one.
That's a weird moment for sure. I take it that old Jerry Lee was talking about the ESB. Or maybe he was just being nice. Haven't heard it in 15 years
I saw Neil Young, John Fogerty, and R.E.M. guest with Bruce in Saint Paul in 2004. Amazing night of music.
Never been to a show with guest. In 1990, I saw Bowie and the second night in Cleveland U2 guested on Gloria.
I remember the two of them doing A Town Called Heartbreak on the Magic tour. It was weird, like something the band used to vamp when somebody broke a string or had to go to the bathroom.
Lots of guests have appeared at the Springsteen shows I've attended over the years including (at the time) E Street alumni like Vini Lopez, Little Steven and Patti Scialfa. Other guest performers have included Emmylou Harris (once to duet with Bruce on My Hometown and another time to duet with Bruce on Across the Border), Gary US Bonds, Joe Grushecky, Bobby Bandiera, Garland Jeffries, and, in a particularly surreal moment, Bob Dylan (who "led" The E Street Band through a ramshackle rendition of Highway 61 Revisited).
I was at Bowie night 1 too and nearly 30 years later I'm still bitter I didn't go to both shows. Time doesn't always heal old wounds
I saw that Emmylou show. Birmingham AL right? I recorded that show when I used to trade shows. At some point later I heard E-Street radio playing that version of My Hometown. The only time something I recorded made it on the radio.
Yes, the BJCC. It was one of my favorite guest appearances...until Emmylou trumped herself the following summer at Giants Stadium when she performed Across the Border as a duet with Springsteen. I have the bootleg of the Birmingham show but the info file doesn't identify the recorder. It could be yours! Thank you either way.
Yeah, I was at the show (at the old Shea Stadium in Queens, NY) where Dylan came out and played "Highway 61" too...good Lord it was awful! : - )
I love guests (I mean, assuming the guest is someone reasonably talented). Anything that makes a show unique and brings an element of spontaneity is welcome, in my book. We get a lot of that in Nashville, obviously...sometimes it's transcendent, sometimes it's sloppy, occasionally it's awkward (Steven Tyler, in town at the time recording his solo album, coming out to sing "Superstition" with Stevie Wonder without knowing the words), but it's almost always welcome in my book. You just never know what's going to happen until the song starts, and I always enjoy that element of spontaneity and danger.
