Simply love Neil Young's tunes on this album. Nowadays Clancy Can't Sing has a Twilight Zone title feel to it.
The Carpenters covered it, great taste.

Lyrically, that song was about 30 years ahead of the curve.
It would have been a standout on a 1996 alt-country LP.

More like the other members and the production team not being enamoured of Neil's voice.

Sorry dude. It's no "Revolver", but it's a GREAT slice of '66.
"Flying on the Ground Is Wrong" beats sooo many songs of
that period it ain't even funny.

You do know that '66 was THE year for pop music, true?

Even Bob Weir hisself said that the "Summer of Love " was
    truly 1966. I believe him.

YA CAN'T BEAT 1966. THE ZENITH OF POP MUSIC.

I didn't know that! Great song. It's beyond me why I forgot to mention it as a highlight earlier in this thread. I don't think Buffalo Springfield wrote and released a bad track.

It is, the piano is panned near the right. You can hear it in headphones.

Speaking of the first album, Tom Dowd told me that he "got in big trouble with Green and Stone doing that stereo mix of "For What It's Worth"".
In their contract, it was stated that "nobody is allowed to mess around or remix things" (I wonder if those multis still exist since they were at Gold Star).
"For What It's Worth" was going to go on the first album in fake stereo (from what Dowd said) but he got the 8-track and remixed it and got in trouble.

Dowd told me "it was a tough remix to do since there was a different instrument on each track".

:kilroy: I don't know if Bruce is a good bass player or not, because the bass throughout this entire album is just about completely inaudible. If it's of interest, four of the tracks on it were released as singles prior to the album's release, none of which got any airplay outside of Los Angeles:

Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing/Go And Say Goodbye
    Everybody's Wrong/Burned

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

I lived through 1966 and remember the music well. I also own a lot of it because I was there.

Anyway, 1966 has some serious competition with 1968, IMO.

But, just because 1966 was such a great year, it doesn't mean that the S/T Buffalo Springfield album was too.

Soul, jazz, and the top 40 pop music on the radio. That's mainly what I grew up on in the 60s.

    Yeah, 1966 and pre
45m's still dominated the charts and mixed for AM radio.
    Much better singles for sure.
I'm sure The Beatles themselves prefered Atlantic /Motown records to their own.

I remember it well. The next year, Springfield played at my high school. I was on stage crew and ran the main spot on Neil Young. That was cool!

"Everybody in that group was a f___ing genius at what they did. There'll never be another Buffalo Springfield."

I've always thought it was pretty cool how the band formed....

"Bruce (Palmer) and I were tooling around L.A. in my hearse. I loved the hearse. Six people could be getting high in the front and back and nobody would be able to see in because of the curtains. The heater was great. And the tray...the tray was dynamite. You open the side door and the tray whips right out onto the sidewalk. What could be cooler than that? What a way to make your entrance. Pull up to a gig and just wheel out all your stuff on the tray. Anyway, Bruce and I were taking in California. The Promised Land. We were heading up to San Francisco. Stephen and Richie Furay, who were in town putting together a band, just happened to be driving around too. Stephen had met me before and remembered I had a hearse. As soon as he saw the Ontario plates, he knew it was me. So they stopped us. I was happy to see ****ing anybody I knew. And it seemed very logical to us that we form a band." -- Neil Young, in a 1975 Rolling Stone interview by Cameron Crowe The Rebellious Neil Young »

    It's fake stereo.

Multi exists and was used for Rock Band. The files circulate.

How old were you in 1966?

Hear, hear! Just like the album itself---it could have been a lot better. I can't imagine how disappointed the band felt when they heard what Greene and Stone did to their stuff, and then to look at the cover was the proverbial icing on the cake. :realmad:
