Well, I'm only replying to the question. They're chalk and cheese, but I personally think Surfs Up is as good as Pet Sounds - and I also totally understand that someone would not agree.

First album I thought of, if this album isn’t a good answer then I guess I don’t understand what you’re looking for or you haven’t explained it well.

I always thought FH was the weakest of the Richard Thompson run. I'd say '...Holidays' or 'Unhalfbricking' deserve to be in the same conversation as L&L, IMO.

Not that it's a bad answer, but how much more praise does the album need? It's already regarded as one of the best of its decade.

As much as their masterpiece? Isn’t that what you asked for?

It's all subjective. To each its own, but that one truly puzzles me. SDT destroyed any chance of that happening.

It's dreadful and seemed worse because Black Nite Crash was a fine pre album single. I haven't played it for years but I think that's the only decent track on it.

Maybe because Marquee Moon has been overplayed (on my end) and overhyped, I almost prefer Adventure these days. Foxhole and Days are better than everything on MM except maybe Venus and the title track.

99% of Radiohead fans would not agree, but The King of Limbs is as fulfilling a record as any of their "greats."

That's how I feel about Bossanova. Last week I listened to every album through Trompe back to back and BN wanted me to repeat it half a dozen times. And so I did. :)

Well, the irony of my statement is what's important to the thread, but I feel that the songwriting team of Swarbrick and Thompson came up with songs that actually sound like they were written 100s of years ago, with Doctor Of Physic, Sloth and Poor Will And Jolly Hangman being among the best songs ever done by the group.

I second this. Street Legal is a criminally underrated album.

I'm not a big fan of Carnival of Light, either, but I should probably revisit it as I knew several folks back in the day who loved it. 1000 Miles is a good song.

I prefer Going Blank Again all day over Nowhere. That is my #1 going on a long drive album for the past 25+ years.

I've always preferred it to Leige and Lief too. I'm most used to it on vinyl though, so Poor Will always sounds out of place to me. The Now Be Thankful / Sir B. McKenzie 45 is superb too. I love that short Fairport era.

Surprisingly, I think Poor Will works well with the album and perhaps gave it a strong closer that was missing, but it does feel like a bonus track on the CD to me, along with the other bonus tracks.

I love it, but when I first heard Full House it was out of print on CD, a year or two before the remaster, so I was playing it on a crappy condition original LP I got cheap when I really got into it and that track listing is how I know it, even though I bought the CD remaster on day of release.

In the last year or so I've managed to finally get a near perfect original LP and the Now Be Thankful single, which I'd never seen at all for years, then it was very cheap when it finally showed up.
