Well, it looks like a nice package, when and if it ever comes out.

Aren't at least a few of those "previously unreleased" tracks already on the 1990 box set and the 1997 Sweetheart disc?

I also read someplace that a new box set is being compiled, and will see release sometime next year.

Hopefully the reason it's being postponed is so that it can also come out on DVD-A.

Hi Larry, it's a Sony so it would be on a SACD.

On the box set, there are onlly one versions of Pretty Polly, One Hundred Years From Now, and Lazy Days, but it's possible, that these are other takes from the same recording sessions.

Proof of this with the Byrds, was the existence and release of the famous eight (?) cd "Byrd Journals", with the almost complete, session takes, of their early hit songs.

Sundazed has previously issued versions of some of this material on the Sanctuary IV LP. Included are all of Gram Parsons' vocal takes, along with various outtakes & rehearsal versions. McGuinn, Hillman & Kelley also contibuted to the liner notes.

It's excellent stuff. Four analogue mastered lps. I can put the track listings here if you like but I believe they're (track lists) easily available from redtrumpet.com

Also I'd recommend the Byrds Singles Collection from Sundazed. 2 lp set same as above. Get 'em while you can!

Hi Larry, I wasn't trying to be difficult. Like yourself I hope this is issued in SACD format. I get a little preturbed when I buy a remastered cd and a few months later it's released in a hi-rez format. I wish there was a way to find out so I wouldn't have to spend my money twice.

The Sanctuary IV album also features a great cover -- the Sweetheart era Byrds playing at the Grand Ole Opry.

Also recommended, the Sundazed LP reissue of Gram Parsons' International Submarine Band's 1968 album Safe At Home .

Speaking of which, how's the sound on that? How does it compare to the sound on the Sacred Hearts and Fallen Angels CD, and has anyone heard the CD version that was out for awhile?

It sounds good to me, much better than the previous Shiloh version I had. Haven't heard that CD version you mentioned.

Strange they've chosen to include a smattering of ISB tracks on this deluxe edition. I mean, I guess they sorta fit thematically, but it's not the Byrds. And if they're including ISB tracks, I wish they'd added the fairly rare "Just Can't Take it" and "November Nights" instead of using common, easy-to-find tracks off the Safe at Home album. Oh well. I guess what I really wish is that someone would put together a comprehensive collection of all the ISB tracks that are out there. Hopefully Sum Up Broke and One Day Week will sound better than the heavily NoNoised versions on the Byrd Parts CD.

How about a Complete ISB multi-disc? I'd buy that. :)

It's a shame that the Sweetheart reissue release date has been pushed back from Sept. 2003 to 2004. Just occurred to me that Sept. 19, 2003 marks that 30th anniversary of Gram Parsons' death at the age of 26:cry:

I think all the ISB tracks would fit onto a single disc, unless there's something out there I don't know about.

Nope. That's probably all there is. I think it's the tightest stuff that Gram did next to the Byrds.

The Safe at Home album, in which the band is supplemented by studio pros, is definitely an excellent piece of work, with probably Gram's strongest singing on any record. Those six other ISB songs (recorded for singles before the SAH album) are much less impressive, but it sure would be nice to have them all in one place, in well-mastered versions.

Thread hijack: hey, does anyone know whatever happened to the GP and the Shiloes CD that was supposed to come out on Sierra about six years ago? I remember reading about it in ICE, but then nothing...
