Kubrick has also admitted he wanted to break the person of "acting" until what he saw through the lens was just the character. So even the slightest hint of artifice or technique bothered him. I once went to a 1980s Hollywood party where Shelly Duvall was one of the guests, and I was introduced to her by the host. I said, "hey, loved you in The Shining" which had come out a year or so earlier, and she said, "oh my god, Stanley Kubrick was a monster!" and she sat me down on a couch and regaled me with an hour's worth of stories about what an ***hole he was. She felt that Kubrick was particularly cruel to the little kid playing "Danny," the telepathic boy, putting him through over a hundred takes on several scenes.

I'm sure in a case like this, Kubrick might have preferred CGI actors. And (getting back to our original thread) he would have no problem working for Netflix if they gave him complete creative freedom and a reasonable budget.

They are easily fooled if they do. Nothing ever came out of the 48fps fiasco that was the Hobbit. Didn't pretty much every theater upgrade their stuff for that movie? I know that my local theatre did and was very surprised.

Spielberg thinks Netflix streaming movies is ruining Hollywood and the traditional moviegoing experience because Spielberg is taking Apple’s cash to produce content for its new streaming service. What a hypocrite.

I think that Spielberg will do just about anything to narrow the best picture Oscar contentions.

Well, I didn't wanna say, but... yeah.

Spielberg would probably say, "oh, I'm just doing TV stuff for Apple! It'll never be considered a feature film!" :sigh:

BTW, one little tidbit: Tim "Apple" Cook has already made it clear that they have no interest in creating R-rated or NC-17-rated content, so it'll all be pretty family-friendly and squeaky-clean.

I’m sure that’s his rationalization, but signing on to Apple’s new Netflix clone, which he must have done before his diatribe against Netflix, just looks bad any way you slice it. And when Apple inevitably follows in Netflix’s footsteps and moves from producing “TV” only to producing “movies,” Spielberg will look like even more of a hypocrite.

This revolves around the strange 7 day rule, I'm not sure how the transformation from ? to film occurs during that 7 days.

What it does mean, the Oscars are becoming irrelevant.

It is all together possible that Oscars have already become irrelevant.
