Just listening to the Birmingham show from 1977, that could be a contender for an official release too. Amazing sound quality and a wonderful show.
The next live releases after Cuxhaven will be Paris (Olympia, with Damo Suzuki) and Birmingham. The information comes directly from Irmin Schmidt. He told that in Zurich, yesterday.
I’d like to buy one of these Can live shows. Is there a consensus on the best of the bunch released so far to start with ?
Of the two so far, I think the Stuttgart show gets the nod, mainly as I had a copy of it for a long time before it's release. However, the Brighton one is well worth getting.
If this helps, here's a blog review I wrote earlier this year, based on the Brighton and Stuttgart shows : Can – Two from the vaults (Stuttgart 1975 and Brighton 1975) (2021 release) (****)
There was the debut of the film "Can and Me" at the Zurich Film Festival and Irmin Schmidt attended there: CAN and Me - Zurich Film Festival
Either concert would be worth releasing, in my humble opinion, but I'd love to see them release the 1974 concert. I submitted it to Sandra/Spoon Records, and did my best hard sell on it.
Okay. Another interesting film debut - a Damo Suzuki documentary - is next month: Energy: A Documentary About Damo Suzuki | Blog There is another screening with interesting guests in London planned, but until now there is nothing sure. Just check the site which will be updated.
Just read the review of the Cuxhaven release in Mojo magazine, it says the release is only 30 minutes long!!!
I got my CD copy from Bull Moose today, and I was very surprised when it ended after 30 minutes. Felt kinda ripped off, to be honest. Sound quality is solid (similar to the others in this series), and the jams are good enough, but there's nothing transcendent like on some of the other live releases. I would have just gone with a streaming option if I had known this before preordering. Caveat emptor.
The weird thing is that the tracklisting on the back of the digipak reads like this: DISC 1 Cuxhaven 76 Eins Cuxhaven 76 Zwei Cuxhaven 76 Drei Cuxhaven 76 Vier Based on that "DISC1" heading, it almost seems as if there were plans for a two-disc set but something was changed or screwed up. If they actually played for over an hour as @JohnOO posted above, I don't understand why they didn't release the full show. Any ideas?
