Absolutely, no question. JMLab/Focal Cobalt 816. No desire to change (and no funds, either)

Very happy with my ATC SCM19s for the last 9 or so years and will continue that way I feel, no desire to change.

I set forth earlier this year to purchase a new set of speakers for my mostly analog rig. I was looking for something "musical" and not advertised as great for HT, too. However, I think good speakers are good speakers and can handle pretty much anything thrown at them. Through my modest (compared to a lot of them here) system, I play probably 80% vinyl, 10% digital, and 10% in a "HT" (2-channel) mode. I have found that my Gibbon 88's are up to the challenge. Can I keep them forever? Yes, I think so, considering my age. (60's). Will I? Who knows. Now, cartridge and upgrade to the phono pre, well, that's a whole 'nother thread................

Now, that really works for me!

I think that most of my speakers and higher end gear, including the vintage stuff, will be here long after I am gone.

Yes .... ten years on, and counting.

Hawthorne Audio Sterling Trio open baffle speakers
3X custom 15” Eminence drivers per baffle.
Top and bottom handle bass 100Hz down.
Center coax uses modified Radiant 475PB compression driver.
    I’ve owned 15 “major” high-end speakers over a 40+ period.
    These are keepers.

Gibbon 88 appears to have a good reputation.

It can go for a long time.

Yes, but you also need the amp.

I have worked on these speakers to make them the best sounding pair of A7's that I have ever had the pleasure to hear. With this amp, it in now an end game.

But I still have other sets of speakers and If I had to be happy with any of them I could. This was just doing my "audiophile" thing. I love it and it has been a fun ride, but I have so many other amps and speakers, even my first pair of Polk Monitor 70's Series II, that I bought from New Egg for $200/ea., back in 2011.

I will be sixty four within a week (I hope)!

Sure. That's why I bought them and why I take time to choose. I also got stand mounts because I can transition to a smaller space and still move them around. We'll see how long the drivers last.

    Your system looks good!

If you could get Western Electric speakers, it would also be nice.

Technically, I can live even without them. But it would be a miserable life.

My three dream ways to die:
    • Of a stroke in the winners circle after winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans;
    • Of a stroke during The Act; or
    • Of old age while listening to Kind of Blue on vinyl on my Vandersteen Treo CTs.
    So, yes.

If my recollection is correct, a very nice sized room in the basement. Like having a blank canvas. Good luck to you, sir. Sounds like a lot of fun. (I was an analyst by trade, so, please forgive me.)

I'm taking delivery of a new pair of Dynaudio Confidence C2 Platinum (in Piano Black) on Monday. Since I won't be buying any more speakers before I retire this is likely my speaker until I die.

What a way to go. :D

  19. That's my current plan, they date back to the early 199o's so someday they may need crossover rehab.

I would like to have a huge attic about 30' x 30' and set up some nice WE's in there. The ones with the really big horns and drive them with all SET's.

Of course, I would need the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow to accomplish that! :)

Never. I can barely live with a speaker for more than a few months before they all start to sound flat and uninspired.

Well, don't wish for a square room unless you want problems with acoustics.

I think I can, but I can't be certain until I find a room that I can live with for the rest of my life. My current listening/living room has an opening on one side (which opens up into a 10'x10' room), and it also has a front door alcove behind the listening position and a hallway opening behind and to the right of the listening position... all that with 7' ceilings. I really, really enjoy my speakers, but I can't say I will be happy with them forever until they are situated in a "forever" room.
