Your statement makes lot of sense. There is more room for improvement of headphone rather than speakers.

Congratulation on getting nice planar speakers! I had also used Apogee Duetta Signature from 1988 to 1998.
I still keep the memory of the natural soundstage presented by Apogee.

I have been living with my JBL L100t3's for over 30 years. I'm as satisfied with them today as I was at the time I purchased them. These speakers are what I settled for not being able to afford the speakers I actually wanted and still want, JBL L300's or their current equivalent the JBL 4367's, which produce more life-like volume without sounding loud.

    Same with me, Gasman.....

I have owned my speakers since acquiring them in HS, 1972-73. They are like a long-term friend who is always faithful and can be counted on at all times in every situation. Friday night party, soothing & contemplative during times of healing and meditation, background while doing home projects or reading....

Nowhere near the size, price, engineering, and revelatory properties of the above mentioned beauties, as a discerning youngster who was searching for accurate reproduction with decent dispersion that could be adapted into most living spaces within reason and still be able to make rent. EPI speakers delivered on every level for me, and continue to do so 40+ years later. The photo is 1 of my model 150's. I also own a pr of 100's in original walnut wood veneer w/tweeter control, (2) pr of 50's in storage, and a pr of 202's which I use in my viewing system without surround. The 202's are the same elements and cabinetry as the 150's, but an additional set of elements on the side.

My area is in an unfinished basement with foil vapor barrier on insulation attached to the cement brick wall and have adjusted the equipment so I'm a sonically satisfied senior citizen.....

Until a month ago i thought that my JBL 4311B studio monitors would be the speakers i would take to my grave....but my hearing ain’t what they use to be.
After owning these amazing speakers for 35 yrs..I decided that they needed to be in a recording studio or at least used by someone who can enjoy them for the next few decades at least.
No regrets!....i replaced them with a pair of Wharfdale bookshelf speakers i bought at a garage sale a few years ago for $10.00!...and with my current set of ears i really couldn’t tell the difference..at the end of the day it’s the music that matters to me..not the delivery system.

Yes, I could live with my current set for the rest of my life. I'm currently at The Rocky Mountain Audio Festival, and though I've heard some nice sounding loudspeakers here only one or two would be an upgrade on what I have now. And those one or two cost far beyond what I can afford.

I agree with you. I had also been to Audio Show. There were very few speakers I got attracted but they were too big and expensive.

I have three pairs of speakers any one of which I could live with till I die. One pair in the stereo system, one pair in the home theater and one pair in the closet.

I am retiring, not sure I am willing to buy more expensive audio system. My GE Triton 1 serve me just fine, and hopefully would last until due to age my hearing will no longer be able to distinguish them from a vacuum cleaner.
But if I win a lottery (or similar nice event), I would not refuse to get some decent MBLs ))).

I could be happy to never leave your room @thomaskong:bigeek: As for my speakers, I'm not sure as I'm uncertain as to whether I'm optimizing the gear I have.

I've been on one of those damned "still looking for the perfect speaker for the room and my lifestyle now" and on Tuesday I'm going to listen to some new speakers at a high-end store, that truly look like winners both visually and in specs ..., we'll see how they sound come Tuesday?

I"m afraid you're wrong. Real audiophiles' speakers come in wooden crates that can be used as their coffin when the time comes.[IMG]

    Diamond Dog Cautionary Example

The speakers I own now were supposed to be the bucket-list speakers and likely will be. About 17 more years of warranty, too so I should be good. And when we do finally part, I'll be leaving on a gurney...

The Unity Audio Fountain Head, set was given to me with destroyed cabinets. The 10 1/2" down-firing woofers were not doing their job correctly. They also have a 7" mid-range and a 2.9" dome tweeter and are 90db. Then with help from a hobbyist engineer/designer, Gort Darkmatter, we were able achieve the appropriate bass response by slightly enlarging the cabinets and they were transformed into one of the most satisfying speakers I've ever heard. Those elder CD's with not much bass are a thing of the past with these. Presence is incredible without bloating. Sorry for the crappy not my own picture, but just trying to give you an idea.
