That is too bad to hear your story. If you had used the speaker for 35 years, it will be hard to leave it.

It is easier to find speaker mate rather than woman for your life.

You can just pay for the speaker.

But you have to do lot of efforts to get the heart of woman.

Harbeth is a good speaker. It is good to keep it for your life.

Absolutely. 27 years with my Apogee Stages. There have been many potential replacements considered, but none have matched the you-are-there midrange, seamless integration of the ribbons, impressive bass, and musicality. They channel the musical message (read: feeling, emotions) like no other “real world” speaker in my experience.
Accurate? Ruler flat? Hell no. They just transmit colors and joy.
Granted, they’re up there in age, and at some point they’ll probably give it up, but so far they’re perfect cosmetically and mechanically.

I had been happy with Apogee Duetta Signature from 1988 to 1998.

It was my first love and I still miss its nuanced detail and natural soundstage.

You can keep it for your life. Good Luck!

I could live with my Pioneer SX-880/Wharfedale Denton 80th anniversary combo for the rest of my life. I need to find the ideal speakers for my Kenwood KW-60 tube receiver though. The Wharfedales were not a great match.

Yes, I'd really like to think so. I'm also hoping that means that I'll hang on to my current speakers for many, many years to come, lol. Based on past experience I realize that should I move again all bets could be off. That's not counting the possibility of some other sort of disaster hitting...

For 15 years or so I was perfectly happy with the first nice pair of speakers I ever owned (Fried A/3). One day when I arrived home from work my wife informed me that she had some bad news. Our son, a toddler at the time, was playing around with the stereo at one point when out of sight. It seems that he had turned the volume knob on the receiver up to full tilt when it was turned off. Unfortunately my wife had not noticed this when she powered it up. This proceeded to literally blow out both speakers (the foam surrounds on both woofers totally gave way) and scare the bejeebees out of both her and our young son. Fortunately the speakers were repairable. I had never contemplated upgrading any of my gear until the Frieds went in for repair. I realize that it would have only been a matter of time until I would have needed to have the Frieds refoamed anyway, but that one single event started me down quite a rabbit hole that felt like I was chasing my own tail for many years to come. That was a real shame because while there was nothing special about my old gear, I really had been very satisfied with it for all those years. It's taken me many years to get back to that same level of overall satisfaction — the point where I'm not contemplating any upgrades.

I still own the Frieds by the way. While I'm aware of their weaknesses, I still really enjoy them and the tweeters in those speakers (made by Hiquphon) are real gems. I bought them soon after graduating from college (now more than 32 years ago). For that matter, I still own the same entire setup that I used with the Frieds back then including the NAD 7250PE receiver, the Linn Basik turntable, the Philips CD960 CD player and the Sony TCFX6C cassette deck. I have this system down in our basement and listen to it when shooting pool. So who knows, I might well live with not only my current Rega speakers until I die but with the old Frieds as well.

I'm retired and just purchased new speakers last year. It was a blind purchase based on reviews and within my budget. Thank goodness I'm satisfied but it's creepy to think that these will be "it" for me.

Hi Richard, I’m the one who take this picture !
It‘s the place of the New-Caledonia Audio-Note (UK) dealer. From memory, the room should be about 6mx8m. This is the high-end set-up side. And although it seems too large for the speakers at first, once the system is playing, it sounds quite good. Thanks to the powerful Ankoru monoblocks !
I have some AN-E myself, run by an Oto SE Signature. But in a much more smaller room. Very satisfied indeed. But, as you said, driving by those powerful amps and next to the solid walls, these Audio-Note speakers gives a lot, and continue to blow-me away~

Me, too. I owned my Apogee Caliper Signatures (bought as dealer demos) for approximately 1989-1994. Unfortunately, I had to ship them, and they were destroyed by FedEx. After using cone speakers for a long time, I got Janszen hybrid electrostatics in 2014, and I am happy to be back in the planar club. It's not the only way to get great sound, but it is a way that I enjoy very much.

Chris, good luck! I hope they work out. And if they don't . . . there are many more models out there.

I was simply going to "like" your post. But that would not have conveyed what I liked most about it, which I've quoted above. I hope that you'll accept my compliments regarding your perspective. When many others tend to build up their individual choices to a point where they come across as a bit insecure, your comment stands out like a proverbial breath of fresh air.

Only if i run out of money or die soon.

    I have little 1990 Kef C35's?
    Which were bought new.

When my kids grow up a bit i will invest more seriously as my system (Luxman/NAD/Kef) does not match my vinyl collection!

Speakers are over-rated. What's under-rated is rooms, rooms, rooms.

I move about more than I like given the state of things where I am, and have more experience of rooms of varying shapes and sizes than I care to mention. The same speakers in one room might be a subjective 6.5/10, in another a 9/10. I've had 300 Euro speakers handily outclass 4000 euro speakers in the same room, all because the cheaper set are better optimised.

So in short and in consideration of my predicament, my answer is: it depends!

LOL. While the Polk SRS Behemoths are not mine, I do own and enjoy a pair of their little brothers. Polk Audio SDA SRS 3.1TL's that were built in 1991. I have revamped them with upgraded x-overs and new wood top and bottom caps, along with new Cloth and other tweaks.

They have conveyed every upgrade I've done to the front end, cables, etc. with excellent results. I'm in my sixties, I can see having the 3.1's in my setup from now on...

Thanks for your comment...my hearing is not completely shot..just diminished in my left ear..i still enjoy listening to music etc. I just felt that the JBL monitors deserved a new home where they were better suited...they also took up a lot of room.

Room Placement and Acoustic treatment is necessary to get the best out of your speakers.

Then you may settle upon a speaker.
