I have the 200g LP of Freddie King's Texas Cannonball (Analogue Productions) and it sounds fantastic!

I always liked Magic Sam's West Side Soul on Delmark.
Same label, same studio as Hoodoo Man Blues, I don't know why AP passed on that one.

The Willie Dixon Chess box is epic. All his tunes done by all the best artists....

It's fantastic....just bought it here a week ago....good thing CDs don't wear down....

Another fantastic LP and artist, kind of under the radar, Little Sonny. A fantastic harp man. His LP, Hard Going UP and especially, New king of the blues harmonica, is a jam from one end to the other. *(The image luckily was both LPs)

There is an RL pressing of Howlin' Wolf's London sessions that is very very nice.

BB King's Blues summit is a great CD.

Do we have a thread for this anywhere??? I would like to improve and branch out to more blues artists as well.....this should be a sticky for a while so we can build a comprehensive list.

Also very fond of anything Koko Taylor did, that woman can bring it.

For something new, but old, Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough. Raw sounding black keys tribute album.

Audio Fidelity hybrid SACD of Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall is a good one.

Most classic Chicago Blues by nature is a 45 RPM medium. So, install thy broadcast conical styli correctly and hunt down thy 45 RPM blues in small doses with the impact of TNT. Good blues LP now reissued T-Bone Blues by T. Bone Walker. Essential.

Check out Skip James - Today! on Vanguard. The more recent repress sounds excellent to my ears, however, if you are looking for Analogue Productions or DCC style audio quality this may not qualify. Amazing album, though.

  20. I just got this XRCD today, and I have to whole-heartedly agree. This is great and very much in the vein of "Folk Singer". This album was recorded in 1963 and sounds wonderful, a great companion to "Folk Songer".

  21. Are there any other well recorded Blues album in the same style as Muddy Waters' "Folk Singer" and Lightnin' Hopkins' "Goin' Away". These two albums have a similar style, in my opinion, which I really like.

    One or two acosutic guitars
    Stand-up bass
    Simple drums (often with brushes)
    maybe some harmonica

I really like this folky/unplugged blues style, and the above two albums just sound great. Really a "in your room" experience.

Would love to check out more albums in that style, but preferably from the 50's, 60's or maybe 70's, nothing more modern.

    Would appreciate any recommendations.

I know there are quite a few blues albums without drums and with acoustic guitars, but I really like the atmosphere the drums create. If you know these two albums I mentioned, I think you know what I mean.

While you're at it just get this instead. It's got the three albums he did for Vanguard and they all sound great.

Sounds like you might enjoy John Lee Hooker's That's My Story.

And if you like Lighnin' in acoustic mode, check out Last Night Blues and Lightnin'.
