I'm surprised no one's said Albert King: Live Wire/Blues Power (MFSL aluminum)

  2. Got "Lightnin'" today, very nice, thanks again for the great recommendations, I like all three of them very much.

  3. I got this album on CD today as well, sounds wonderful.

Glad to hear. Lightnin' and Last Night Blues were recorded within a few weeks of each other (Oct/Nov 1960), using the same rhythm section - one session with Sonny Terry, the other without - so they're very similar. Both great. Ya gotta love "Automobile Blues".

If you like Hooker, there are some wonderful audiophile vinyl reissues available:

That's My Story - JLH Sings the Blues (1960) (2LP/180g/45 RPM/Analogue Productions), mastered by KG & SH
Burning Hell (1964) (2LP/180g/45 RPM/Analogue Productions) mastered by KG & SH
It Serves You Right To Suffer (1966) (33 RPM/180g/Speakers Corner/Impulse)
Get Back Home in the USA (1969) (180g IMPORT 2LP) Pure Pleasure Records

These are all treasures in my collection.

Yes, Live Wire is top shelf, essential Albert King in my book. There are a lot of good recordings of Live Wire around. My Stax CD and vinyl copies both sound excellent.

Blind Reverend Gary Davis - These are difficult to find in vinyl without ridiculous pricing, but fortunately the CD's sound are very well done.

Buster Brown/ New King Of The Blues and Lightning Hopkins/Mojo Hand. Both deserve Steve's magic touch on 180G and Gold CD.

Many thanks for the heads up on this. Didn't know Chris Whitley was available in high res at all. Ordered it together with Perfect Day (on SACD) just now! Also couldn't resist on some other recommendations in this thread.

Its 12 hours into the new year here and I already put in my first order worth well over $100... :shh:

You have a huge amount of great taste!!
Its a shame they never released Buddy Guy's sweet tea and blues singer on vinyl though, I'm sure you agree!

I wanna buy Lightnin' In New York and hesitate between 2 versions.

1: Barnaby Candid Series Z 30247 Stereo (original)
2: Pure Pleasure Records/Candid Limited Edition 180g LP

    which one would you buy?

Also, although its not on your list, I'm wondering which The Best of Muddy Waters LP to get, can you or someone help?

Universal 200g JPN IMP MONO LP
    or
    SPEAKERS CORNER/CHESS 180g LP

I've never heard an original pressing of Lightnin' in New York, but I'm very satisfied with the Pure Pleasure pressing.

I do not have the Best of Muddy Waters LP, so can't help you there.

I'm guessing the blues doesn't sell well to audiophiles? I'd love to see more. I'd like to see a 45 RPM version of Muddy Waters' "Hard Again."

  19. Any commentary on Keb' Mo's MFSL vinyl or CD? I've been curious about it.

Little Hatch "Rock With Me Baby" I have this on reel tape and it is staggering! Can't vouch for the LP or CD.

John Mayall/The Blues Alone (Mobile Fidelity Anadisq 200). Hair raisingly realistic. And in my book equivalent to Muddy Waters/Folk Singer in sonics and content. A quieter, more subtle blues LP.
