Are there any excellent CD pressings for Candy-O / Cars?

    Thanks

I like the HDCD version (the new remaster).

But I have a HDCD player which plays back the HDCD encoding (20 bit). Sounds great to me! Others say the HDCD encoding is too bright (or maybe it's the remastering?), generally speaking. I don't find this CD too bright at all..... but my system is not 'naturally bright' to begin with. So I guess it depends on your system, too.

As far as I know there are only two versions out there. The original CD and the HDCD. It won't cost too much to check them both out.

It would be interesting to find out if the original CD is just a flat transfer..... ! I don't have it, just the HDCD.

Nope the original cd isn't a flat transfer. It has plenty of those forum favourites such as too much added compression, lousy staging etc.

I'll give the remaster a try. I have an non-HDCD player and most of the HDCD encoded disks sound good. In fact, the newest Paul Simon - You're the One is excellent. Great songs, too.

    Thanks for responding.

    ferric man,

I'm in the camp of the HDCD sounding too bright and any songs that are also on the DCC G.H. just don't measure up to Steve's mastering. I believe that the HDCD is just not great mastering, that's all.

I have both the DCC Cars releases and I agree they are terrific. It's just, I want my Candy-O ... so until Steve does the remaster ...

perhaps I can find it used.
