Not sure how many fans there might be on here, but I would say Leo McKern as Rumpole. Not only can I not think of him in any other role, but I can't read the books without picturing him in my mind as the character. I know he had quite the career before that, but that's the role that stuck.

(To turn this into a Beatles thread, he was in Help!)

I think that is something that frequently happens when actors play over-the-top type roles.

In this case, they weren't really known for much else.

Some actors mentioned here are remembered as standing out in a particular character simply because they never played in many other well known productions that offered exposure on other roles.

Yeah, if N.Y.C. hookers looked like her, more people would be moving to N.Y. rather than moving out.

And every prostitute/guest gets up early and fixes eggs for her "hosts" breakfast.

I don't really mean to say anything about the new Star Trek and In fact I love the new Dr. McCoy, Scotty and Chexkov (hope I didn't mess that up)..
But Kirk is a VERY BIG SHOE to fill in....

The only guy that will have a big chance with him is Commander Straker

Agreed. If you like Ed he's great, and hilarious, in John From Cincinnati, a 10-episode series on HBO years ago, which I most heartily recommend.
