I didn't really know about the clown song. But now that you mention it, it sounds vaguely familiar.
I was thinking of Sound of Music because of the nun, but did not know the song lyrics.

I tried to explain in post 993 that Pearls Before Swine often uses bad puns. On a Sunday strip,piling it on is part of the fun. This is a typical PBS strip,but I feel one needs to read a lot of them to get into the groove of Mr. Pattis. This is why consumption of daily comics is part of my day. Has been since before I could read. Just looking at the pictures,especially the enlarged Sunday strips,seemed interesting. Later,all of my kids benefited from learning to read via newspaper comics.
While this "insert"thing is beyond my skill set,look up the Pearls Before Swine 1/22/19 strip for another stupidly funny take on a pop music subject of special interest to many forum members(it's not the Beatles).

 

Our local paper actually has PBS. Surprise. Are they a 70 year old strip on the second generation writer?
I only read Doonsebury, which is on re-runs, so I don't even look at the comics anymore.
Any way, I just wasted 20 minutes looking through the online version for any comic, much less one from last week.
I finally just googled it.

 

Thank you, i thought pearls before swine to be the title of the strip. I looked it up and like especially the piglet with the donkey`s ears ... bad puns ? Could find this (propably pun about clothes ?) which was done by Pastis while thinking of his father in law:


Pastis was almost known in it`s liquid form to me.

I don't know anything about who drew this or their interpretation, but I always assumed it was Rose and Valerie.
