A real ad for a real pamphlet written by Thomas Kimbrough and advertised at least in Ebony Magazine May,1960(entire issue via Google Books), possibly Playboy and others. There is a copy of the pamphlet, titled Swinging Syllables, on sale via Abe Books for $125.
I got several of them, but I ended up looking up the rest: Spoiler 1. Pearl Jam 2. Guns n Roses 3. Stone Temple Pilots 4. Queen 5. Doors 6. Led Zeppelin 7. Radiohead 8. Smashing Pumpkins 9. Alice in Chains 10. Pantera 11. Blind Melon 12. Rolling Stones 13. Sex Pistols 14. Police 15. Beatles (This must have originated in the 1990s, considering the "latest" band names.)
Thanks! I'd have never gotten some of those. Without giving anything away, #1 would've never looked like what it really is to me. I was thinking "Oyster Jar" ?? #3, the second two items look like "Church" and "Cop" to me, so I'd never have come up with that one either. I thought the final one was two ladybugs ! It's the spots, man !
That one could have benefited from better drawings. What's the difference between the pilot and the policeman, for example?
I agree. It also seems old, from the 1990s. Probably someone who did it casually, and is surprised it's still around.
I got 11 out of 15, despite the fact that some of the answers weren't exact matches for the pictograms. I'm gonna look at the link sallymae so helpfully posted so the others won't be nagging at me all day!
