I think they're good examples because:

    1) They are both considered Top Moneymaking Masterpieces. In other words, no expense would be spared to do them right.

    2) They are complex multi's to remix. How hard was it to remix Simon & G in comparison to Tommy?

If you think about (1) and all the money the could spend to "do it right" and totally blew it - what's the chance that something like the CCR catalog would get the right funding - for both the top-notch mixing engineer AND proper vintage studio equipment - to have a proper remix done? That's right, not much of a chance.

But expense has nothing to do with personal taste. Andy Macpherson simply wanted to change things with the Who remixes. Of course they won't sound the same if you *try* and make them sound different.

Probably not much different, since they are both 8-track recordings. Putting drums in the center instead of on the side, and ignoring fades and pans is just being lazy and/or not caring. It's not an issue of complexity.

Keep in mind the remix of WGFA is from 16-track, and the sound of the original mix is *nailed*.

Again, it doesn't have anything to do with money. All the money in the world doesn't make a difference when you don't care if you're true to the originals or not. On the other hand, staying close to the originals doesn't necessarily require tons of money.

    Not Quad!!

    >>>>>>EEECCCHHH...whatever you do, DONT use the Quad mix, it stinks.

Lets get a brand new, sparkling 5.1 remix of all those great CCR songs.
The original mixes will always be the standard, but there are a lot of fans like me who would like to hear something new from an old classic.
