I started thread for CD anomalies where I found some CD disc trays we're different colors. Somewhere on that thread showed how they color code there CDs with colored trays.

What started this off was that my Beatles White album had white trays. I since learned that all or many Japanese CDs automatically come with white trays as opposed to the typical grey trays.

I also found out these colored trays are available for purchase separately. This gives me the ability to swap out trays and color coordinate CDs with colors that would compliment them.

I was thinking of buying some yellow trays to swap into my Goodbye Yellow brick road CDs. Or maybe Yellow Submarine CD. Or maybe Cheap Trick Rockford CD.

I already bought some purple CDs which I swapped into my Deep Purple CDs.

I got some blue trays which I'm going to put into my Moody Blues CDs.

I was thinking about putting some red trays in my Sammy Hagar CDs.

Can't think of any CDs that will compliment green other than Green day.

There are also CD trays made in pink, light green, sky blue, and burgundy.

I would swap out trays that either reminded you of the artist or group, or complimented the album cover of primarily one color.

What recommendations would you have to swap out a solid color CD tray?

I don't know about all that above but I always liked them white trays.
Something different that catches the eye.

I do too. I was thinking about getting several and swapping out them on my Japanese import CDs that didn't already come with white trays.

I was also thinking of color coding my West German CDs with some color.

Unfortunately they don't make black trays. Or metallic trays either. That be great to put my Quicksilver messenger service CD in, or my Joe satriani surfing with the alien CD in.

Unfortunately I can't find enough of them. They do sell clear frosted colors but I don't like them as much as the opaque or solid colors.

All Miles Davis discs should have trays that are kind of blue.

    Stevie Wonder's trays...really shouldn't matter...!

I've never put much thought into the cd trays. I have put maybe too much thought into matching up otherwise unrelated discs to free up shelf space

I have touched on what you are doing, I've used blue for a lot of pre-70s rock, red for extreme metal/punk...

I think there was a Pink Floyd album that had Braille on it. Not certain if Braille was the title of the album or something generic but that would definitely apply to Stevie Wonder.

I have a cool red tray (not dark red -- sorta transparent) that came with an Austrian or Japanese (I can't remember which) Santana "Abraxas" disc.

I guess I'm losing my mind. I got some colored trays in today and one of them was blue so I decided to replace the tray in the Frank Sinatra Come fly with me CD with blue. I pulled it from the shelf and saw Frank in a black suit against a darker blue sky and then saw the tray was black.

I honestly don't even remember I guess I was just so used to seeing gray that I thought if it was dark it was gray. I wound up leaving it in because it complemented the CD more than the blue tray.

Then I started looking through my CDs closer and I found several black trays. So although they are not as common as grey trays or white trays they are still quite a few out there.

I honestly wonder how they decided with what color to go with when it came to trays in the production. When they later converted over to clear cheap thin plastic it all didn't matter. They just now have to create some kind of art to place behind the clear tray going forward.

This seems a little silly. Unless they want all their fans to buy six CDs. Or maybe they just wanted to give them a choice to buy the album in their favorite color or one closest to it. Was the tray the only thing different?
