Anyone ever had this happen? One of my home CD players, for some reason, didn't like a CDR that I stuck in it -- started spinning and wouldn't read/play. OK...I get that part. What was truly weird though was when I ejected the disc. The tray door opened with the freaking disc still spinning like a mother -- in THE TRAY ITSELF! Other than scratching off some paint on the tray walls, which it did a pretty good job of, did I ruin anything else?

Anyone else ever had this happen on a standalone home CDP? Really freaked me out!

It happens. Usually when the transport can't see/feel the disc (transport control). Happens to CD roms too. If the transport lets go of the disc without spindown, you get "Tasmanian twist". (insert sfx here).

It's not a big problem, but some drives and drive transports can be aborted without manditory spindown. Always wear protective gear when playing with CD drives! :p

Some CDrom drives can be ejected during the actual spin-up as a quick abort, the disc is ejected while spindown hasn't really occured.

"If I can't SEE the disc, why should I do spindown?" - Your CD player.

I've heard of CDs shattering and flying through the CDROM door! I'm worried now. My tower computer is underneath my desk and the CD drives are pointed directely at my crotch! :sigh:

To be honest, I've seen a lazerdisc with a crack in it, get re-inserted in a drive, and shatter in the player. Sounded like a .22 rifle going off. I don't think the player made it out alive :( Almost 500RPM and the disc itself weighs almost 1.5 lbs.

I'd rather have a DVD or CDR come flying at my crotch than a LD any day. My lord.

    David,
I had 3 Technics CD Players that were famous for that. Got rid of them (I threw one out the window and got much satifaction) after that I never had that problem again. I returned many a CD in the old day's. What CD player do you have?
