Regarding Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms ... Thanks. Just received my copy of this pressing. What a difference. The first track, "So Far Away", has a DR of 20! It sounds sooooo good. It really annoys me that I have re-buy albums like this. Fortunately I found it for $2.79 (shipping included!) on Amazon Marketplace.
^ IMO there was hardly any need to remaster BIA in 2005 and put out 2.0 track on SACD. 5.1 mix is another story, of course, but even it is not highly regarded here...

This thread is not helping my OCD. I am now on a quest to find higher DR pressings of the duds in my collection. Luckily most of them seem to be going for cheap on the used market. Today I received: David Bowie / Let's Dance (1983 EMI, "Made in Japan") = DR14 Mike Oldfield / Tubular Bells (1983 Virgin, UK) = DR14
Just got this one for $3, it is DR16: The Police / Every Breath You Take (The Singles) [1986 A&M Records, CD 3902] http://dr.loudness-war.info/details.php?id=14905
I had to look up what this meant. Can you tell by listening? It does not sound bright to me, and there is plenty of bass.
^ You can tell by using, say, EAC. The current EAC version shows Yes in Pre-emphasis column if this flag is present in disc's TOC, while the earlier version of EAC can also show if pre-emphasis flag is set in track's subcode.

It would be very nice to known the Dynamic Range of the tracks "think of me" and "needles and pins". I think there is a bit difference in DR there... "think of me" sounds very dynamic to me. The drums are recorded very, very good. Lots of dynamics and transients in spades! Typical great 70's sound.

Testikoff, thanks! I had thought the difference in DR between the two track would be larger. What CD edition do you have? I have the remastered CD. It's slightly compressed compared to my Lp.
^ I have the original BMG Germany-pressed CDs for Changing All The Time/Midnight Cafe/Bright Lights & Back Alleys They sound great!
Today some Tangerine Dream concert recordings arrived in the mail: DR14: Tangerine Dream / Poland (The Warsaw Concert) (Disc 1) DR14: Tangerine Dream / Poland (The Warsaw Concert) (Disc 2) (1984 Relativity Records, Bar Code 88561-8045-2) DR14: Tangerine Dream / Livemiles (1988 Jive Records, CHIP 62, Bar Code 5 013705 107627)
Can you post your EAC Levels from this ones! I have a 3CD Box (3 Originals the name of the Box from 1997). I am interested if they have the same masterings as your originals. Thanks in advance!

First of all, thanks, but I think that are not EAC Levels (that's DR Levels). Here are my EAC Levels from Changing all the Time: Track Peak -- 98,1 01 81,5 02 82,9 03 98,1 04 81,0 05 80,9 06 73,6 07 68,7 08 94,4 09 84,7 10 70,9
I've seen a DR stamp saying 18 db for a Rock album, but I don't remember which one. With classical music that is where the big dips come in play. I been listening to WAGNER PARSIFAL for 4 hours last night and even on an below average setting there were many regular peaks that were pretty shocking loud late at night . OTH there are parts that are so low you think there is no music going on when you talk to your wife while listening to it. The secret is simple. Put a 100 or more musicians in one room and add a large chorus - inside a stone wall in the St Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre where it was recorded and you get an idea why it can get that loud or low...
