I've been talking about him a lot in the Fleetwood Mac threads, it remains to be seen how that will be sorted out. But I thought I'd launch a thread celebrating the absolute heavyweight artist he is.

I hope the deal with Fleetwood Mac at least gets his name recognized outside the music geek realm and possibly leads folks to explore some of his other work.

Still can't fathom him being part of FM. No thanks.

Love him and his music, and enjoy the popular Fleetwood Mac years. Based on what I've seen so far, not impressed, but if I think about the songwriting possibilities of Stevie Nicks, Mike Campbell, and Neil Finn, I have to admit, I get excited. I can imagine a new fantastic album that has staying power.

This is not about Fleetwood Mac. The guy's got close to a 30-year catalog of fantastic stuff.

Please let's leave the freaking freak show that is Fleetwood Mac out of this! There are multiple page threads ... I've been up to my nostrils in them ... to talk about that mess. This is about Neil and his work. If we can't keep it there I'm going to ask the mods to delete the thread.

Yes true. I remember watching Crowded House play a live set on NY eve in the ABC studio. Material came off the first extremely solid CH album and they played loads of ToLM tracks which turned out different when it was finally released. I watched that countless times ('86?) and always amazed by Finn's underrated guitar prowess. Eddie Raynor was on keys, otherwise a talented 3 piece playing to a small in studio audience.

Neil Finn isn't exactly obscure. We just have to realize that Crowded House didn't kick it up higher with audience share after the debut.

One of my all-time favorites. Still waiting impatiently for Try Whistling This and One Nil to be reissued on vinyl. Such great albums.

Finn's last couple solo releases slipped off my radar, but Try Whistling This and One Nil are fantastic.

    Neil Finn!!
Crowded House remains one of THE bands. Saw them many times, every show great. Every album is a treasure.
He's an absolute master of the clever, smart, well crafted pop song.

Neil Finn is an absolute genius as far as i'm concerned. One Nil is probably still my favorite. The other night Lightsleeper really clicked for me. What a beautiful atmospheric album.

Reminds me of the Sting thread. Both started to "lose it" when they left their bands. In Finn's case, Split Enz, not Crowded Houzzze.

I had NO idea Neil Finn sang backup vocals to Every Day Is A Winding Road. Apparently Paul Hester was an inspiration for the song...

I love Neil Finn, he was an early hero of mine when I was 9 or 10 years old. Loved so much of what he did in Split Enz, and his Crowded House records have so many great songs.

That being said, I hope he is in Fleetwood Mac for just a year to fatten his bank account a little. I don't think it will be a good long term fit for him. He seems like a very solid, stable and easygoing guy, which is the opposite of that band.
