The 90s has some of the best cgi that you don’t think about. Forrest Gump has a lot for example, but it's not flashy.
This scene from Contact '97 is amazing, and heartbreaking

The CGI in the new "Lost In Space" reboot is comically bad.

I thought I was the only one who noticed.

Massive soap opera effect and it seems nearly every shot was composed using green screen. The mist and fog effects in the first episode were terrible.

I’m enjoying the story OK, but the digital sheen is real letdown...

Can't be as bad as the CG from the 1998 movie, can it???

The obvious CGI is 'bad', by that I mean the robot, when it was rendered as CGI - not only because of the Transformer-like gymnastics but also because the movement was unphysical. Like the scene where it jumps off the tree branch to the ground didn't look like a physical object falling under gravity. The eye easily picks up those types of errors.

But other types of non-obvious CGI was done well IMO, such as backgrounds, set extensions, environment add-ons, etc.

I find it getting better all the time...sometimes it's hard to tell it's there.

so is the use of a female for Dr. Smith...sorry, can't accept that one...

Well, technically, she isn't Dr Smith. She just assumes the real Dr Smith's identity, who is a male and not only that, was played by Bill Mumy! Does that change your philosophical objection??

Cool! How long was Billy in this? a few seconds?

Yep, about that long - just an easter egg cameo...

Why on earth would they take pains to change something that is one of the few things olders might remember about the original.

Now Kara Thrace being "Starbuck", that I can get; the original wasn't so much a character as a homework assignment for the actor to study up on Han Solo...

CGI that I did not detect was used in the Kiyoshi Kurosawa movie "Tokyo Sonata." I was totally unaware of it's use until I watched the "making of" doc on the DVD. Nothing flashy, but very effective and served the story well.

Not in the case of the Directors Guild of America. This is what stopped Ted Turner from colorizing Citizen Kane and remixing it to stereo. And Welles had been dead for several years when that argument came up. Not all films are union, not all films have DGA directors, and some contracts allow the studios to make any changes they want. But with Kubrick, I think we can assume that nothing could be changed or released without the consent of his estate.

I watched it because of Heather Graham. I didn't think the movie was that bad. My two sons watched it for the 1st time a few weeks ago.

And very humorously, Mumy even yelled "Oh, dear!" at one point.
