Not Christmas music, but easily deposited into a Christmas list (whole album) with some holiday decorations and a little imagination: Folkesange is the third studio album by Danish band Myrkur, led by singer Amalie Bruun. It was released on 20 March 2020 under Relapse Records.[8] Folkesange diverts from the style of the band's previous black metal albums into folk music. The album consists of renditions of Scandinavian traditional music performed with period instruments such as mandola, lyre, nyckelharpa and talharpa as well as of original acoustic compositions.[1][2]
Good one, @Gasman1003 ...love Steeleye, any season. And this: Down In Yon Forest...from Steeley Span's Winter
Currently enjoying this Christmas "muzak" time warp to 1974 of classic Kmart: Seems especially poignant this year with everything being closed. No more unique popcorn, carousels, slushies, blue light specials, etc.
Here are some 78s, 45s I bought this year (all in thrift stores)...mostly for the artwork but some are in good shape
For prog fans, "Sound Like Christmas" by the December People. This is actually RObert Berry (Emerson collaborator, etc) doing Christmas songs in the style of ELP, Genesis, Queen, etc. Some tracks more successful than others,, but this "Yes" version of Carol of the Bells is just spot-on:
Best Nutcracker LP ever. Gorgeous recording and the orchestra really puts their heart and soul into their performance.
Wow, looks like somebody finally got over to Grandma's house to do some cleaning-out, and dropping-off...nice score!
My go-to "Gaudete" comes from the Medieval Baebes' Mistletoe & Wine: Katherine Blake of Miranda Sex Garden assembled a skilled cadre of seductresses for this vocal ensemble of Early Music delights. A close second: Ireland's "National Choir" Anuna, from the PBS video, Celtic Origins, recorded in Cleveland.
By the way, for those who feel Joni Mitchell's "River" doesn't deserve to be lumped-in with the other Christmas songs just because it mentions the holiday in the first line...howabout a better wintertime-themed number... ...perfect for those of us who just came in from pushin' around a snow-blower...
That's always felt a bit odd, but nothing compared to My Favorite Things somehow now being classed as a holiday tune. Awful.
Thank you! This is delightful to just "throw on" in the background while perusing the Net or doing some WFH. I know...I know...that's what it was intended to be! Just sayin' that I am enjoying it as opposed to some stuff from my collection for a change.
